RE: Airfield strikes

<t> Is repair modelled and is it based on equipment available? I'm guessing not; probably another one for the feature request list to model the effects of, say, bulldozers versus a bunch of guys with shovels. (It'd only matter over multiday scenarios.)<br/>

RE: How much can you do with the LCS?

<t> In which case, might it not make more sense to buy dedicated blue-water frigates for the role? If we really wanted the jack-of-all-trades not-really-a-warship, the Danish approach with the Absalon-class support ship or a larger number of Sea Fighter types would work relatively well. (Come to ...

RE: Airfield strikes

Duly noted, and I shall be sure to keep that in mind when I have 18 B-52s to work with. :P

I've been able to inflict some damage on runway access points with 2000-pound penetrator bombs, though I'm not sure whether it's enough to render them unusable.

RE: How much can you do with the LCS?

<t> Given a little more self-defense capability and the ability to mothership a handful of unmanned systems--ideally a mix of ACTUVs, RHIB-based systems, and a few UASes for eyes and light strike--there might well be something to the LCSes. The really high dash speed is of suspect usefulness, though ...

Airfield strikes

<t> Typically, what are your procedures for taking out an airfield? Is there a rule of thumb for what kinds of targets need cratering, and with how many/what kinds of munitions? I've been running with the assumption that the heaviest bombs you have go on the runways and the runway access points ...

Diving aircraft and missiles?

<t> I have to admit, it's a bit puzzling watching missiles and aircraft shed altitude and speed at the same time, especially when the missile is in a terminal dive. I'd have thought that was when the missile should be travelling the fastest. Ditto aircraft diving to escape enemies.<br/>

RE: Crotale missiles unable to attack Mach 2+ inbounds (v1.10 RC2 B775.11/DB3000 b441)

<t> Yeah, seems fair. And that'd certainly explain about the speed. [:)]<br/>

I do agree on the impression that the thing doesn't appear to be designed as an anti-ASM SAM. Research is hitting a brick wall, though. All I can do is guesstimate missiles' relative performance based on what ...

re: emsoy: I know, right? I'll try to find other sources if I can, but it'll take me awhile and I'm not optimistic. In the meantime, would you say there's at least enough to merit bumping Crotale up to the Sea Wolf and Aspide's max engagement speed of ...

RE: Crotale missiles unable to attack Mach 2+ inbounds (v1.10 RC2 B775.11/DB3000 b441)

<t> Sorry, not an expert on French/Chinese weapon systems, and open-source literature isn't telling me much. But, browsing the other database entries, I think it'd only be logical to at least bring up the engagement speed to 1600 knots, in line with similar missiles like Aspide and Sea Wolf, unless ...

Crotale missiles unable to attack Mach 2+ inbounds (v1.10 RC2 B775.11/DB3000 b441)

<t> It appears that all versions of the Chinese HQ-7 Crotale are downright unable to attack Mach 2+ inbounds -- that is, unwilling to launch because the target speed is too high, not just unable to hit. Attached is a test scenario where an Indian frigate is positioned to launch a salvo of BrahMos ...
