Securing bridges in the Market Garden 44 scenario

OK I'm lost. What's the trick?

The paratroop units land, divided, in turn 1. In turn 2 the Germans rapidly move in, pushing aside units and seemingly able to reach and blow the bridges without any serious opposition. There's no time for my guys to even attempt to do anything. :cry:

How many retained movement points to guarantee combat

Can somebody point me to the manual section, or elsewhere, that specifies the minimum movement points that a unit needs to keep available to guarantee that it can engage in combat following movement? Thanks.

Also, should I be surprised to find at a unit, adjacent to two enemy units such that one ...

I tried playing it again this week and the Soviets just annihilate me. I don't mean just that I lose, but that without fail, on turn 2, the Soviets attack again and again such that about 70% of my forces evaporate and I'm left with just a few battered units.

3 parts is perfect - nice and succinct! Excellent work.

I think I'll save them until I finish my current game at least. I've got enough hints and info now to play effectively. I'll see if I can come up with a winning strategy first.
