Re: Slow Performance?

Time for me to have a funeral. An old friend (WitP-AE) is dead as King Tut.

I'm stuck with Windows 11 and WitP-AE is wrecked.

I always accepted that WitP is slow. After all, resolving turns always involved a very large number of steps. On its best day, starting a campaign game meant starting the ...

Re: Compatibility...

Thanks simovitch & Orm.

DxWND worked like a champ. No more 4 hour turn resolution.

Next ... get Seabee installed on WitP-AE. I've used Seabee before, but that was years ago.

Re: Ike Fired Me

According to the "About" screen it is V1.00.

It was puzzling, indeed. The weather prior to D-Day was like historical - terrible. Low ceilings. I could barely get recon flights off. It wasn't as if I was wear the Germans out in Italy, either.

The quick fall of Cherbourg caught me by surprise as ...

Ike Fired Me

End of June 44, the AI sent me the nasty-gram and transferred me to the Aleutians. Not surprising as I was having trouble keeping my score above 22. But what the heck, it was my first game. A virtual training mission.

Between mandatory orders and crummy weather, good days were rare. If I went up ...

Re: Compatibility...

Shortly, I'll work up the guts to re-install with DxWND. In earlier such evolutions, disaster has resulted.

I'm getting the hang of BTR as the Allies. Kicking butt in daylight, but I have to figure out night bombing

Facing The Arithmetic

Abe Lincoln was not a professional soldier, and did not know the lingo. But by mid-1862 he realized the Confederacy was politically robust and would not fold up like the Mexico did in 1848. He grasped the fact he as in a war of attrition, but he did not know the term (Was it in use in the 1860s?) so ...

Thanks for the help. Sounds like a dragon long since slain, but another noob question: Where can I find the DxWND thread you referred to?

Gretings from a new (old) guy on the forum.

Re: Here We Go Again

Does it matter if the CVE is in a TF? Or just swinging around the hook in port?

Should the air group be stood down or in a training mode?

Long past 20 days.

Re: Here We Go Again

Question for the board:

I've been trying to upgrade a USMC SBD-3 squadron to "carrier trained." I've had the squadron stationed on a CVE fr four months and the damn thing will not become "carrier trained."

Ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Here We Go Again

Sitrep July 18, 1944

Things moving too slowly for my liking. Amphib TFs headed for Tarawa and Wotje.

KB still nowhere to be seen.

Bombardment of Truk has slowed down as flak has beaten down my low-level gun B-25s. I'm moving in some more. Port damage = 68 but there are some renegade ships still ...

Re: Here We Go Again

Sitrep July 3, 1944

Ponape and Manus are still pummelling Truk. Ships prtty much sunk/driven off. A handful of Zeros annoy my P-38s.
Ponape medium bombers also molesting Roi, Eniwetok, and Kwaj. Recovering ships a Pearl for second wave at Marshalls.

I expect a ground fight at Wotje, Roi, and ...

Re: Here We Go Again

Sitrep June 30, 1944

The Pacific held its breath as I began the neutralization of Truk.
200 B-24s escorted by P-38s from Manus. Going for the air base
105 (Gun) B-25s escorted by P-47s from Ponape, and one carrier full of Hellcats and Helldivers. Going for the port/ships.

In both cases the escorts ...

Re: Here We Go Again

Short sitep June 12:

As Tom Hanks searches for Private Ryan, the Maloelap Naval Fortress had a bad day.
First, that night they got a dose of 14" US naval rifle displeasure over Pearl Harbor.
At dawn they got dive bombers and a beach full of hostile Marines stomping the bonsai.
By dark not only were ...

The endless war against AI-San and the distances grinds on.

Sitrep: May 28, 1944.

Manaus is almost ready for the great strike on Truk. To get plenty of land-based planes I've got an invasion on Ponape laid on. I have a division planned for Ponape and lots of engineers and BF. betwenn the two bases ...

Even if Scen 2 gives me only about two-thirds of the stuff other scenarios dish out the USN gets big by mid-1944. It takes a while to turn this behemoth.

Re: Here We Go Again

Valentine's Day, 1944.

Pretty much wrapping up Solomons/Eastern NG. Nabbed Umboi Island. AI-San built a decent port and airfield there and didn't leave much of a garrison.

Aussie I Corps is zeroing in on Madang and I'm moving assault power from easily taken Torokina to well held Shortlands. Don't ...
