RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> With no substantive basis to hope for a near-term fix, I'm attempting to test the playability of "the Shadrach workaround". Currently having some issues with running with an edited scenario but hope to overcome that. Then will run with Axis all PO and Allies mostly PO by Turn 5. Allied ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Scenario is as released, no edits. Only change I made was to random seed to -1 in advanced player options to ensure repeatability. And it looks like it's readily repeatable. I'm trying to replay it now with place names invisible as a workaround, but at a reasonable map scale it is easy to get ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Just what I feared. When I was young and very junior, I had responsibility to do on the fly s/w maintenance when stuff blew up, started looping, etc. Hated trying to debug someone else's code. I'm relieved Shadrach has identified a useful workaround. Is Matrix starved for human or financial ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

Just ran Allied turn 16 with place names invisible. Private Bytes started at 344MB end successfully ended the turn at 385MB. If someone occasionally needs place names, hovering the mouse pointer over the hex will show the place name. Congratulations sir and well done.

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Just had a reply from the help desk, they have asked the "producer" to try and contact the "developer" to review this string and try to debug. Not sure how this all works, not sure if the developer is also the programmer or whether the developer is the designer and will need to then contact the ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Just ran another experiment while I await a fix. Ran turn 16 Allied with P/O at a reasonable map scale and tracked Private Bytes. Started at 383.3MB and grew to 1.5GB just before crash. Changed map scale so entire map fit on screen. Map didn't move during play. Started at 351.3MB and never grew ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Ran Turn 1-16 again to gather what information might be useful. This is really "black box analysis" without any tools or insight of the internals. Nonetheless kept Task Manager/Performance open to track available memory as well as Performance Monitor to track private bytes consumption. What I ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> For 3 years I thought I was the only player having this problem. Thought it was specific to my PC configuration. Smart people have said the first step to solving a problem is identifying/validating the problem. Thank you very much. <br/>

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> Thanks for the most useful input to date. I tested my hypothesis that a multi-processer timing conflict was at the root of this. Ran turn 16 using the move PO button and then the execute all combats button to create pause times. Crashed on combat round 6. Tried reproducing your research, had to ...

RE: help desk requested post here for developer

<t> I would not be surprised if it will run fine on any machine configuration except mine. Since on the 8th run I stopped to save just before the fatal point and it then ran to end of tern makes me suspect the Intel multi-processor might be experiencing a timing conflict and the pause might have ...
