turn 1 air questions

Is it of any value to conduct recon missions on turn 1, and if so, which kind should I focus on, what intensity and how much, if any, escort should I provide for them. Seems to me like there is not much gain for the loss in pilots (dont really care too much about the loss of the aircraft), but maybe ...

RE: what is the deal with flak defense at Trapani?

<t> <br/>
I sent the save game over. I just ran it now and this time Palermo was hit (though I believe it was outside my attack area perimeter) and suffered 24 LB flak losses flying at 20K feet on an interdiction mission. Note that the staging base for the attack says "Dover" though not only was ...

what is the deal with flak defense at Trapani?

<t> Apparently, this port on the west coast of Sicily was the second most well-protected air target of the war after Ploesti. Fifteen of 150 LB's lost flying an interdict mission at 20K feet? Even with the entire Italian fleet sitting there with their AA guns firing away there is no way they are ...

RE: escort effectiveness

<t> I think I figured it out. The manual seems to confirm that the escorts will be less effective the closer you get to their range limits which makes sense since the range would represent the absolute limit of its capability. If they are escorting slower aircraft then even at the point where they ...

escort effectiveness

<t> It seems like my escorts assigned to a naval patrol mission are nowhere to be found when my force is intercepted by the enemy. Would this be because those escorts are too fast for the attack aircraft they are escorting? If this is the case, if I were to lessen the range of the mission boundaries ...

RE: headaches matching air units to air bases

<t> Good to know that there is no penalty for basing air units on air bases under different commands but being kind of OCD about it so I end up doing it anyway. At this point, I have almost memorized the airbase map and which ones I change out on turn one. I usually change the command of about half ...

RE: Newbie on witw

<t> We are in the same boat. But then you need to remember back to when you first undertook WITE and probably not much difference there. I have been playing for a little less than a week and gradually seem to be catching on. One thing that is a bit disappointing is that organizing your air units ...

Sicily invasion - which day of the week?

<t> I want to set my night AS missions only for the day which the paradrop occurs assuming that the transport planes are vulnerable to enemy air. No need to have those missions running other than for the day of the drop. I also would want to set a high intensity GA mission targeting units in the ...

headaches matching air units to air bases

<t> Driving me crazy trying to re-organize my air units on the first turn. What would be REALLY helpful would be having the ability in air transfer mode not just to see which airbases are under the same command as the base from which I wish to transfer aircraft, but seeing WHICH command those bases ...

RE: Aircraft numbers in combat report

<t> 99% sure that the first number is how many undamaged and the second number is the total number of aircraft including damaged. I am pretty sure that "5:7" does not mean 12 aircraft of which 5 are operational as I have never seen the number on the right less than the number on the left. Also, can ...

RE: where did my movement points go?

<t> I think tomech48 is correct as his explanation is consistent with the circumstances in which I have observed the occurrences. I seem to associate it with the units attached to the corps doing several attacks where all of their movement points being expended grinding down the enemy unit with ...

RE: where did my movement points go?

<t> Hadnt thought of that but what happens is that the movement points go to zero in the middle of the turn (and not by moving the unit) so I dont think that is it. Also, I dont believe it was related to distance to railhead. I am not 100% certain, but I believe that these were not even my Corps HQ ...

where did my movement points go?

<t> Playing as Germnany early game, I will look up in the middle of my turn (actually, usually towards the end when I am trying to get my corps HQ within 5 hexes of its combat unit) and see my corps HQ movement points are now zero. I know that a fuel drop by air will cause this but that is not what ...
