turn 1 air questions

Post by antoniusb »

Is it of any value to conduct recon missions on turn 1, and if so, which kind should I focus on, what intensity and how much, if any, escort should I provide for them. Seems to me like there is not much gain for the loss in pilots (dont really care too much about the loss of the aircraft), but maybe they are giving some lift to my combat effectiveness in combat phase and airfield bombing. I am not looking for a turn 1 optimization of air planning, just a question specific to the value of recon in turn 1.

Also, was there a recent change where committing air units to airfield bombing in turn 1 makes those air units unavailable for ground support in the combat phase? I used to be able to allocate all my air units to airfield bombing in turn 1 and get those same units to provide ground support in the combat phase when requested. In recent plays, I am not getting any ground support for my turn 1 attacks after having them used on day 1 AF GA.

It’s my experience that you don’t really need any recon or ground support on turn 1. Turn 2 and beyond yes.

If you delete all your GA ADs at the beginning of the ground phase it may release some of those AOGs for GS.
The lark, signing its chirping hymn,
Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !
