Re: Incident in the Gulf of Finland, 2024 - new beta for testing

Looks like a fun one, thank you Sir!

Just a few initial observations before proper play-through:

- Helsinki-Malmi Airport should be named Helsinki-Vantaa Airport , EFHK (Malmi, EFHF, has been recently closed and is/was located more south).

- Much more appropriate helicopter for such a mission ...

Re: Why doesn't the USA build a better AMRAAM?

One more thing to consider, just one, that I forgot to mention is indeed that of the expected mission. While things such as R-37 are likely capable of being serious threat to less-maneuvering targets at very long distances, and perhaps forcing more maneuverable targets defensive as well, they do ...

Re: Why doesn't the USA build a better AMRAAM?

I'd say that being a "crappy missile" is... a bit of a statement. The AMRAAM has been around since the nineties, when no similar capabilities existed at all, and is still generally considered to be highly successful and effective weapon.

Just a few points to consider.

First, the Meteor achieves ...

Re: What happened to the AMRAAM ranges?

Yes, while some of the older scenarios may have their intended balances affected, the air-to-air missiles in CMANO/CMO were stupidly over-effective at distance without much attempt at all to simulate relatively quick burn-out times of the rockets used. It can be deduced from publicly available ...

I know I shouldn't, but for a brief moment, when still believing there was supposed to be any serious thinking behind this, I though this was kinda hilarious.

Chaff works when a missile is attacking from the flanks and rear. They should NOT be effective against head-on missile attacks correct?

Technically chaff should be deployed preferably when flying near-perpendicular to the missile, where the missile can't reject the chaff cloud by the doppler ...

Re: Seems like everything comes down to weapons stores. Agree?

Yes, this is a major consideration. Even more so to smaller defensive forces that reasonably do not expect to (and indeed have the defense forces for the very purpose not to) ever fire in anger(*). Just the two of all the major reasons I think are towards the top are the storage requirements and the ...

Re: CMO Public Beta - Build 1243.5

What a great effort the big update is, enjoying it already very much!

Perhaps an opinion piece, but I seriously dislike that a plain right-click deletes the waypoints to plot a course when the unit is selected. It is way too easy to destroy an elaborate course built-in only to reconstruct! Perhaps ...

Re: Antiship Missile Lessons from Sinking of the Moskva (Proceedings)

There have been several successful SAM intercepts of AShMs in real life. We hear a lot more about the ones that failed. In the failures, almost all had issues with readiness or RoEs.
This kind of comes around to my very point.

A potent opponent tends just to spot (or to hear from the intel ...

SIGINT at it's best, indeed, in what comes to direct effects. No doubts there, but lovingly deniable. All on FlightRadar24 :)

Re: Antiship Missile Lessons from Sinking of the Moskva (Proceedings)

I'll also point out that if we simulated modern warships being ambushed and operating without radar in a threat zone, players would be screaming that the sim is broken. Crap happens in real life.

Indeed, what is surprising and also interesting from the simulation point-of-view is the percentage ...

Re: Antiship Missile Lessons from Sinking of the Moskva (Proceedings)

Speaking generally, most simulations tend to be of what I consider as 'spec sheet simulators' by nature. Most systems and platforms are simulated as per their specified (real or estimated) capabilities, not that much after their valid, real-life performance.

As it is evident, in any given event ...

Good point. Should we assume the intel from the near border flights by those recon and radar NATO aircraft, is being passed to the Ukrainians and being acted upon, or are those observations kept within NATO? I wonder if there are efficient communication channels established for such a thing.

Exactly. Just more of the usual Russian BS.
Not necessarily. Even if they can reach hypersonic velocities, "traditional" ballistic missiles are not usually classified as hypersonic weapons in this context, the ...

It's its altitude: 35.000 km !!! Which is far from earth orbit, in deep space. It should be 350 km IMO.

35'786 km or thereabouts - also known as geostationary orbit. [:)]
