Re: Surrender of a major power

I'm not expressing this well.

When the last of the 3 capitals in the UK is taken by the axis, what happens
1. There is a check for surrender, (with the probability = .03 x the number of units on home spaces.)
2. The capital automatically moves to Toronto without a check for surrender?

Re: Is it ever worth using diplo on minors other than Spain or Finland?

Turkey gets some nice mobilization jumps for the Axis if you take Egypt and a couple of other things.
If you can get Turkey in you stand a good chance of taking the Caucuses, which hurts Russian Production.
And the Turkish Army is quite robust.

But one of the major reasons for investing in ...

Re: italian war strategy?

I've never played Italy alone. When playing the Axis, against the AI, my Italian strategy is:

Move the fleet, 2 per turn, past Gibraltar to help in the Atlantic.
You will want Naval Warfare to help against the UK Atlantic Fleet and, eventually, the US fleet.

Leave the British Med fleet alone ...

Re: Defending Barbarossa

The trick is to out-build the Germans.

Corps lost if in supply of 5 or more are cheap and quick to build, so don't let them die under 5 supply if possible.
They die, you build them back.
Investing in production helps a lot.
Remember, they are very weak the turn you place them so try not to put ...

Re: Things you WISHED you knew in your first game...

On the value/cost of upgrading movement of units:

The AI has a very effective method of
attacking,
moving the unit back,
moving another unit up,
attacking,
repeat
until the morale and strength of the defending unit is crushed.

Its very effective in breaking French lines of defense.

To do ...

Re: Surrender of a major power

This is the turn the capital, London in this case, has fallen. Manchester and Edinburgh are Axis controlled.

Does the UK check for surrender BEFORE moving the capital to Toronto?

I did a similar test in June, see post about 3 up thread, and that was the way it appeared to be working. If ...

Re: Surrender of a major power

Axis controls every space in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Gibraltar.
The UK has one unit on a UK home hex, the garrison of Malta.

there are also;
9 naval units
5 land units in Egypt, including Aus and NZ
2 units in Canada
UK National Morale is 75%

I just took London

Re: Things you WISHED you knew in your first game...

When the (last) capital falls the probability of surrender = 100 - (3*# of units in the home country). The National Morale doesn't matter. The number of enemy units in the home country doesn't matter either.

UK Home country is defined as those spaces that have (UK) in the left hand corner of the ...

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

Got a clarification. When you hover over a space, if it says "(UK)", as in "Clear (UK)" in the upper left corner of the pop-up box, then its UK Home Territory.

So Gibraltar, Malta AND Cyprus are UK Home Territory.

If you eliminate all units on the island of Great Britain then there are still 4 ...

Re: Surrender of a major power

I did a test.

It appears that Gibraltar and Malta are considered "home country." Including them led to a 70% probability of surrender and I got surrender in 7 of 10 cases. Still could be random noise, but it doesn't look like it. No prediction on Cyprus being included.

Naval units at sea and ...

Moving to Toronto

Aug 8, 1940 and Manchester, Edinburgh, and London have fallen. There are 7 units in Great Britain, plus one each in Northern Ireland, Gibraltar and Malta.

That is a 76% chance of surrender, 70% if Gibraltar and Malta count.

I ran it 10 times and UK surrendered 7 of those.

When UK did not ...

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

UK Fell after the August 8 turn with long range amphibious landings in Manchester and Edinburgh and air attacks and parachute landings to take London.

The manual says a major country will not surrender with probability = 3%*number of units in the "home country."

There were 7 units in Great ...

Re: Surrender of a major power

"Major Country Surrender = 3% * number of remaining units within the home country"

I'm surprised this mechanism has nothing to do with National Morale, but I'm ok with it.

I assume units in Egypt are not "in the home country."?

Ships at sea?

Surrender of a major power

What influences surrender?

I believe its a function of National Morale, capture of a HQ, and number and value of units remaining, but what is the algorithm/value of each component.

I'm trying to get UK to surrender with capture of London, Manchester and Edinburgh without moving the HQ to Toronto ...

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

For difficulty, set your winning conditions as control of every hex on the map.
Or keep Russia out of the game until you're ready, then try to take it in 10 turns.
Or learn the AI well enough to find the earliest you can take out the US. :)

I just did a play through on standard rules.
Took ...
