Re: Spying and intelligence

Thank you. Excellent points. For Russia, it is especially agonizing to be behind Germany, infantry weapons (for a little while), but especially tanks, anti tank and anti aircraft.

Spying and intelligence

The U S, U S S R and Japan do not begin the game with spying and intelligence being pursued. If they do not invest in this won't they have a tremendous disadvantage when pursuing upgrades, due to the limited chance of breakthroughs? Would an early investment in spying and intelligence give them a cha...

Re: Fighting Typhoon: Before, During and After Action Thoughts

Fascinating game. But since Taifun is not contributing any new reports we are not getting the Axis perspective on the campaign. Unfortunate. Hard to tell who is winning.

Re: Blue Hawaii

It seems to me this Hawaiian question has not been thrashed out enough. Am I wrong in saying that an assault on Hawaii or even the U S West Coast is almost inevitable in most games by the Japanese? If so, what is the proper response? You can probably fortify and put in enough troops in Oahu to make ...

Re: 1942 Scenario Optimal Turn 1

I am interested in this scenario. Are your comments made in regards to playing the AI or against humans? Because AI is stupid and useless. Do you think this might be a balanced scenario with two people playing against each other?

Naval exclusion zone?

In a PBEM game I am playing now( I am Allies) during a naval battle around Malta the hexes around enemy ships is colored and it appears I cannot venture onto these hexes. I think some, though possibly not all ships are near an enemy submarine. Can someone explain to me what is happening?

Blue Hawaii

Defending Oahu, the big island of Hawaii and Midway is a fairly considerable investment for the Americans. The West Coast is harder to attack, easier to defend and frees up resources that can be used elsewhere. But it greatly complicates and I fear almost eliminates a U S counterattack in the Pacifi...

Door number 1, Door number 2 or Door number 3?

It seems to me that after the Battle for France, the Commonwealth is faced with three options. 1. Fight like Hell to save Egypt. This protects the Mid East oil fields, Russian southern flank and East Africa. 2. Vanquish the Wolf Packs. Invest heavily in ASW research and weaponry, escort carriers and...

AA guns and France

The weapon of choice by the Commonwealth for delaying the conquest of France is the ack ack gun. I am having trouble seeing the long term post France value in these weapons. I know they are cheap and quick to build but is there any alternative that can still be useful in France and afterward?

Countering the sneaky stuff

Based on my own experiences and reading after action reports it is often devastating when you are hit by a surprising early game unexpected attack. For instance, in a couple of AARs the Axis player invaded the US and in another the Allied player launched a sophisticated attack through Tunisia to hit...

Stopping Guderians panzers

Anti tank units seem more powerful attacking and tremendously more powerful defending against tanks than tanks are. The Russians can field six and the Americans and British combined can field six antitank units. Is building these units and teching them up a way to contain the powerful German tank su...

BEF and French morale

What is required of the BEF to maintain French morale? 1. If the BEF returns to Britain immediately after appearing in France is the morale lost? 2. If the units initially appearing are replaced with, say, garrisons from England is morale lost? 3. If the BEF is quickly destroyed by the Germans is mo...

The importance of commanders

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but bear with me. Can someone give me an empirical value to having units under a commander. As an example, let us say I am the Russian commander. Would it be smarter to spend my MPPs building commanders so that more units are under command when the Germa...
