Re: Allied opponent wanted

I will play as Allies. I assume you are talking about the 1939 scenario.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

Here is the thing. Every turn the Allies can hold out in France helps Russia. If France falls in April, even May the Germans have too much time to subdue Malta, invade North Africa, invade Greece, crush Yugoslavia, get Hungary, Rumania and Bulgaria as allies and build every panzer army in the force ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

If the French send their Syrian and one Algerian corp, the Rhone river corps and abandon the Maginot Line and move the corps around Paris ( the idea being to force the Germans to destroy every French corps and armies before Paris falls) and use British North African units to cover Algeria and the ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

Thanks for the description of events. These beg the following questions. 1. A late conquest of France is obviously unacceptable. Delaying it to stop the Tripoli strategy is not feasible. Are there enough Italian resources that can be committed before Italy enters the war to stop it, presuming a ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

It would be helpful if you could provide a rough outline of the strategy that lead to the Axis defeat emphasizing who did what that was right and who did what that was wrong.

Re: The names' Bond, James Bond

Bearing in mind the response to the initial question is the choice of a unit discovered totally random or is there anything that makes a unit more likely to appear on the enemies screen?

The names' Bond, James Bond

I still need a definitive answer about whether there is a counterintelligence option in this game. Here is the specific problem. The British and American response to the Axis almost always entails an invasion somewhere. The problem is that if an amphibious transport or a gathering invasion force ...

trouble in Tripoli

In a couple of after action reports the Allies invaded Tripoli very early. Done successfully, it opens the back door to North Africa and makes conquering it very early much easier, since Tobruk is effectively outflanked. But now that everyone is aware of it it seems to me the Italians come put a ...

Re: The fighter sweep scam

Historical notes. The Germans tried luring the British out with fighter sweeps during the Battle of Britain. After a while they were ignored. After the battle ended the Brits tried fighter sweeps over France. Again, ignored by the Luftwaffe. Also, in the early stages of the bomber campaign against ...

The fighter sweep scam

This business of having fighters flying "fighter sweeps" over enemy territory to force defending fighters to react and leaving bombers to attack with impunity is a scam. Both Allies and Axis do it so it is an equal opportunity rip off for defending forces. Historically, both sides realized this and ...

Re: Spying and intelligence

Thank you. Excellent points. For Russia, it is especially agonizing to be behind Germany, infantry weapons (for a little while), but especially tanks, anti tank and anti aircraft.

Spying and intelligence

The U S, U S S R and Japan do not begin the game with spying and intelligence being pursued. If they do not invest in this won't they have a tremendous disadvantage when pursuing upgrades, due to the limited chance of breakthroughs? Would an early investment in spying and intelligence give them a ...

Re: Fighting Typhoon: Before, During and After Action Thoughts

Fascinating game. But since Taifun is not contributing any new reports we are not getting the Axis perspective on the campaign. Unfortunate. Hard to tell who is winning.

Re: Blue Hawaii

It seems to me this Hawaiian question has not been thrashed out enough. Am I wrong in saying that an assault on Hawaii or even the U S West Coast is almost inevitable in most games by the Japanese? If so, what is the proper response? You can probably fortify and put in enough troops in Oahu to make ...
