Night Move

I just dropped in to play a game and Night moves are not working for me in "Hotseat" mode. I have not played in some time, so am unsure if something has changed or not. Please let me know. - Thanks!

Re: Attack Attack Attack - a Hotseat AAR

I just found this wonderful AAR. Brilliant idea to play solo-hotseat! I think I'll try it. (I play most of my board wargames that way, so why not a computer game too?) Anyway, I'm curious what house rules you use for a hotseat game. I assume you leave fog of war on?

Re: Supply in Burma and Vietnam

The farther you get from a port, the more supply restrictions kick in. Like in North Africa with WarPlan. As India withdraws the harder it becomes on Japan. Look at the chart on page 59 of the manual. It does not take long for Japan to have units in Basic Supply - which means no replacements and ...

Re: How Nail the Prince of Wales and Repulse?

those 2 bombers are your only real chance sometimes you get lucky and sink them usually they escape damaged.

More often than not I sink one of the ships. Maybe 67% of the time. Either the destroyer squadron or a BB. But it makes me wonder if it is worth the oil at this point in the game. I ...

Re: I took the plunge, looks really interesting

Why are you not doing the same thing in Davao i.e. no port blockade?

Because the unit can pull supply from Cebu and Baybay. A commitment of nine additional ships to blockade three ports to block a unit that IMO should only be able to transport to ports in the Philippines, seems excessive. Its ...

Re: I took the plunge, looks really interesting

Playing Japan, I have been taking Aparri and Legaspi on turn 1, plus blockading Lingayen and Manila. Seems to be working ok. However I probably do not move fast enough to finish off the Philippines.

Playing the allies, it is the Mindanao Force in Davao I never know what to do with. But I restrict ...

Re: Who moves CV first loses?

That explains the red arrow I saw coming from Rabaul during the test when Naval interdiction occurred. The attack is there - just not recorded. Thank you.

Re: Who moves CV first loses?

This is an another use of the patrol craft. Send two of them in one at a time to soak off the interdictions. Then hit the CVs with multiple CV fleets and LBA. I am not a fan of it as I like the carrier battles. So I send in the carriers to see what happens - but not the most effective way to ...

Re: Who moves CV first loses?

I have also done a big mistake. Engaging a CV fleet without any other fleet in range for supporting it. I will do more tests but I think mutual support between fleets is a key principle.

Re: Who moves CV first loses?

CVs cannot attack surface ships using night move. However they can trigger an interdiction attempt where the ships in night move attack the carrier fleet.

Re: I took the plunge, looks really interesting

Wow - this is a problem. IMO Philippine units should stay in the Philippines.

Thanks for posting the screenshot - I am not sure what to think about the forward deployment of Aussie units. I am guessing you need more than 18 oil points per turn to counter this.

Re: I took the plunge, looks really interesting

Japan can capture Rabaul, Lea and Guadalcanal on turn one. But that will leave Manus, Kavieng and Buin uncovered. It is easy to close down Manus and Kavieng from reinforcement. The Yamato and a couple of BBs strategically placed will destroy anything that attempts to land. Plus you have the Ryujo to ...

Instead of weakening the subs - which will adversely affect convoy raiding, maybe the anti-sub values should be bumped up on surface ships.

Re: eskuche is right. (fix subs please!)

A couple thoughts about subs. Unlike ships, they do not lose effectiveness unless they are in combat. A stack of five which attacks a weak, low effectiveness task group can do a lot damage (interdiction during the enemy's turn appears to greatly improve the targeting).

When the stack is smaller ...

Re: Battle Grp oil use

Good catch. This may be a coding thing.

When building a battle group the cost is the same for Large Warships or Warships. As Al mentioned, the intent of having BBs with "Warships" is to reflect the older tech. If you are building a new BB then you want the new tech "Large Warship" choice. It would ...

Re: Port blockade rule

I use the torpedo boats for resupplying units in a port. They work great if there are no enemy task forces in the area. But because the resupply causes them to be in fleet mode, the patrol boats are very vulnerable. So if I use them in a contested sea area I try to limit their moves to six hexes to ...
