You're not required to do so- you can invade without attacking or destroying anything. The AI has the same restrictions (only very recently in the Beta does the AI have any kind of advantage at all, and it has nothing to do with combat). I even suggest blitzing a planet to make use of their ...

Absolutely, it is not the optimal action. I'd prefer if the fleet manager AI was able to sidegrade from a heavy to patrol escort (for example) to fit it's template, even if the heavy escorts individual design setting was to only upgrade to a newer heavy escorts design. IMO the fleet templates ...

I do have to agree it is rather counter intuitive unless you happen to read that specific explanation in the in-game guide, since I also ran into the same problem.

Ships added to fleet despite automatic fleet formation set on manual

As the title says I've found that the game keeps adding ships to a fleet despite fleet formation being set to manual and the number of ships for a class going over the cap set in the fleet template.

Probably a bug but it might also be a desired behavior that is poorly conveyed to the player.

I've experienced that myself with a repaired Battleship going to an empire that had a construction ship working on a nearby wreckage. For now, until they fix it, I suggest using the game editor to take possession of the ship.

One odd thing I've noticed in my recent playthroughs is that even Tier 0 armor will often regenerate during combat faster than even significantly higher tier shields.
It seems to do so only as long as an armor plate has more than 0 armor, at which point it seems to stop regenerating at that high ...

Removing the tech trading in exchange for a boring and generic percentage bonus you get once and forget about for the rest of the game seems like the kind of shallow thing I would expect from Stellaris. I'm extremely against it.

I doubt your average pirate faction has the manpower needed to police an entire planet.
At best they could achieve orbital supremacy and threaten orbital bombardment should they not get a regular tribute paid, which is actually what they kind of do right now.

I have to agree. The inability to put several types of cruisers in a fleet template kind of goes against the good flexibility of the ship designer.
I'd like to be able to have a ship of the line, electronic attack and missile cruiser all in the same convenient fleet template.
