Re: Why not a new serie ? "Tactic command battles"

In my above suggestion concerning tactical battles system for the Strategic command engine, I forgot that : It would be fine to have a "reaction fire system", that could be set "on/off" (depending of what player want)

If "on", it would happend that :
1- When a unit advance adjacent to a ennemy ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

London has fallen.

Thanks Umeu it's been an epic game already. It's now April 1941 and the Axis still cling on to London although the Allies will probably retake it next turn. The Axis is generally scrambling to prep for Barbarossa and Pearl Harbor. The clock is ticking because USSR and USA ...

if you also control the railroad through the Caucasus (& Rostov or Stalingrad), then it might appear like you're moving through Istanbul still? Otherwise, not sure.

New ELO game: wevilc allies v Old_Shane axis

This game resulted in a stalemate, all fully covered in my AAR. For those who are unaware, there is a conflict between the victory conditions in the strategy guide & the game scripts. By gentleman's agreement the result is as stated.

OK I have ...

In the victory scripts.

Thanks Bill.

When I said above I would & could have taken Seoul had I known, I forgot Shane would & could have devoted more resources to its defence. Anyway, what happens next? Will the scripts be amended or the VCS in the strategy guide?

A funny thought occurs ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

great AAR and valiant effort by Pete who has been improving so much.

Can you post the end date? I lost track of the years. Was it 44 or 45? I'm surprised Pete did not play on to claim the ELO bonus points. Yes, Axis would eventually lose but they were far from defeated when the game ended. They ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

This is the point at which I would love to see your evaluation of the merits of an Afrika Korps campaign. Is it worth it? Most of the top World at War players recommend that the Germans invade North Africa but I always wonder why.

Certainly Pete has conducted an excellent campaign. He severely ...

lvl 3 panzers in 41 in NA :O that must be some kind of record lol.

Usually lvl 3 doesn't arrive till early 42.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

Question on #4: What exactly is 'PH' in this context? Is it historical, i.e. 'no Allied DoW before December 7, 1941'? Or is it some ambiguous timing based on when Japan eventually strikes? I've assumed this is historical but wanted to confirm with others who might be more aware of its ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Umeu : Well, much depends on your opponent’s skill level. There are games in which France survives, and Germany is defeated in 1941, but the usual outcome is the destruction of 2 or 3 major German formations, whether panzer corps or full armies. Personally, my objective is to inflict between 1 ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

Increasingly players are using these:

1. No diplo on Majors
2. No Barbarossa before 1941
3. No diplo on Bulgaria
4. No Allied DoW on Japan before PH
5. No Italian navy outside Med before DoW
6. No using garrison transports as scouts
7. No using neutral ships / transports as scouts
8. No XP ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

interesting approach to the Brits, but as happened here, in my experience, such massive drive of new units always arrive too late to make a difference in France. So I'm curious to see what your tech looks like at this point. I feel like you just put yourself behind, and in the end, France surrenders ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

I agree with Taifun. Some weird moves by Pete with Japan here. Motorization is way too expensive and the benefits are small. And that's on top of the excellent point about increased cost of embarking. But also just the cost of upgrading at 50 per army is so steep... I'd rather just make bombers. Or ...

Do any Axis players attempt to avoid infringing the irritating 18-unit limit prior to Barbarossa? I find it too annoying & fiddly & just ignore it.

Err ... it might be 10 hexes - can't remember.

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

It is very good news for China that Petedalby has not continued the advance toward our capital, Chungking. This gives us valuable time to strengthen our defenses, continue building fortifications, and deploy new units. Personally, I believe this is a mistake on Japan’s part, as time works against ...
