Re: What's the most fun game setup?

Regarding nebulae: pathing is horrible, so you will find dozes of ships stuck in nebulae for decades on denser settings, which is the definition of "not fun".

Re: Unorthodox Strategies?

Because it really is not a big deal: money is in abundance as long as you want it, Aculon "porblem" is solved for the entire game by filling a single asteroid field with mining stations, Hexodorium only starts getting used in mid-game (unless you're unlucky enough not to get a deposit, you'll have ...

Re: Unorthodox Strategies?

Mining stations mining faster is only advantage when you have a single low-quality deposit. In majority if cases, the primary job of a mining station is to store the resource: you don't need a steady supply of pretty much anything; demand simply spikes from time to time, and you need large enough ...

TheScoob wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:54 pmThe implementation of my idea would be that you can't simply "hit remove" to be rid of them.
But that's the core of DW2 character treatment: game periodically deletes a random idle character (gets pretty silly where game insists on removing spies that just got out of jail).

Re: [ Distant Worlds 2 Advanced Guide ]

While I mostly agree with the post, just to clarify a couple points:

That is your opinion clearly. It's the definition that leaves room for "playing the game" between "rule in absence" and "exploiting 4x out of it" (although, one can argue that exploiting is in the genre definition, and thus ...

Re: [ Distant Worlds 2 Advanced Guide ]

Have to admit, though, that you have a strange definition of an exploit. As I understand it, exploit is not something that "AI does not do", it's using legitimate game mechanics to achieve unintended results. So raiding a planet right before the invasion (with the purpose of avoiding militia spawn ...

Re: Strange cash flow problem I hope someone can explain

Luxuries? Stockpile levels on those are often set fairly low, so it's quite possible to run out before freighters finally manage to bring in more. And if you rely on mining ships - running out is pretty much the norm.

Re: Boarding Bug - Correct Empire Policy Settings

Confusingly, the setting - "Alwayas Disassemble at Base for Tech and Resources" results in the ship being scrapped. This is just wrong.
Probably, an edge-case because it's a hive ship? It *seems* to work fine on pirates and regular AIs. Although, I did not use this for prolonged period of time ...

Re: Are bigger construction, exploration and colony ship pointless?

Whatever extra time it takes for colony ship to complete - is still shorter than time it takes to grow those extra colonists on site (even accounting for possible immigration during extra construction period).

Re: Why multiple cargo bays on spaceports and defensive bases?

My thought was on late game performance. The biggest empires have almost endless cash, cash flow, bonus income and resources. If there were concepts of shrinking the endless things it would improve late game performance.
Sitting on a pile of resources does nothing to performance. It's when that ...

Re: Why multiple cargo bays on spaceports and defensive bases?

But on bases or at least at colonies it would make sense and it would be no problem.
While there are enough inconsistent behaviours in the game that adding one more wouldn't make much of a difference, I just don't see the point: is there really a need to put an effort into nerfing defensive use ...

Fighters an bombers does not need resources to be build? But the design screen shows resources. I'n my opinion resources should be needed.

Then you'd need to have any ship with a fighter bay carry those materials (assuming ...

Re: For the love of God do something about notifications

AFAIK, all notifications to date are of the same urgency. Unless you have some clever idea regarding notification tiers (which companies like Google are yet to come up with), that is unlikely to change.

Well, yeah. The clever idea in my original message which you must have skimmed.
Which one ...

Re: For the love of God do something about notifications

Agreed. Even if I'm fine with what we have, splitting categories into individual messages would only be a good thing. Having notification show on the map would also help a lot: if it's important enough to bother you, why not be able to tell at a glance where it is?

Or who actually finds "go to ...

Re: For the love of God do something about notifications

Paradox has a pretty nifty system for its games. Every type of message is its own category, and how you want it to interrupt your game (or not) is adjustable.
Older games - sure. They kind of moved away from that concept 5 years back or so (and seemingly revising that decision due to popular ...

Re: For the love of God do something about notifications

Currently an inbound attack fleet to my homeworld has exactly the same urgency as a freighter having a scuffle with a pirate.

Conquering a world is just as relevant as capturing an Escort.

Discovering an ancient fortress? Right up there with finding some umpa lumpa fruit, or whatever the ...
