Re: Axis side

The Axis side of the grand Bombing the Reich campaign is interesting but a bit too tedious for my taste. Managing production is cool and I like how much control you have over research/airframe logistics but the actual gameplay of intercepting hasn't aged great. Night bombing is especially annoying ...

Freeze During 12th Air Force Planning

Playing the AXIS grand campaign and had a freeze/crash occur. Day was normal, however when ending my turn phase to start the day, the game froze at the "12th Air Force Planning Air Missions" step. I waited about 10 minutes before Task Manager killing the game.

Whatever the bug is, it seems to be ...

Re: Suggestions for future patches

Very late to this thread :P

One nice thing I'd like to see added is a little wind speed indicator. Just an estimate near the wind direction would be nice :D . I've had many missions cancelled as a result of not knowing how quickly the clouds would be moving across the map.

A (lesser important) QoL ...

Re: Escorts

Here's a photo of what I was describing after a turn I processed today (apologies for phone photo, this game does not like to be screen captured).

Not one German group had taken flight yet and no combat at all, didn't fly over any HAA sites. Despite all that, four of ...

Re: KayBay's Allied Strategic & Tactical Doctrine

I'm going to be picking up the game here shortly and the information here has been a great read. But the last post was quiet a few years ago. Do you have any new info for what you learned as worked for you?

I believe everything here in terms of production, transport, bomber mission planning ...

Re: Escorts

Interesting, it would make sense if they jettisoned when under air attack but that was also not the case. Are tanks dropped the moment escorts fly over a site with HAA? That could be it as it seemed they pulled back very quickly after crossing over the channel and flew over some German controlled ...

Re: Escorts

Set your delay really late and they should pick up the return leg. You may have to fiddle with a bit to get it exactly where you want it.

What I mean is that even when doing exactly this, it still often doesn't work. The extraction escorts with a heavy delay will get halfway to the meetup point ...

Re: Escorts

Another tip that is sometimes missed by newer players is the need to 'delay' your escorts launch to extend their time with the bomber groups. And don't forget the return leg protection. delays are best set by right clicking along the bomber path to set the join up point going out and coming back ...

Re: Do bombs kill aircraft on the ground?

Yes however they're less accurate and you'll generally get better results with fighter strafes. If you bomb an airfield with heavy bombers while aircraft are still flying, they can also be destroyed trying to land on a cratered runway.

Re: Escorts

There's an element of luck of course, but what you're doing now is pretty much what you should be doing. Escorts only get once "bounce" before they're at a lower altitude and after that they'll probably be bounced themselves from enemy fighters that haven't dropped altitude yet. I also prefer to ...

Re: Struggling with Air Superiority

One trick is to sweep a base that is close to base where enemy has CAP. This will cause less enemy fighters on air, at target so you get usually favourable numbers. It's called "leaking CAP" where CAP tries also defend nearby bases within range.

Some might call it bit gamey, but it can be ...

Re: Struggling with Air Superiority

Welcome to WitP the best game ever!!!

and Welcome to the IJ!

Thanks! :D

So, early games are about getting your tactics down pat; seems easy, but there are a lot of them. Almost every single tactic that you use has an effective deterrent, particularly true as the IJ. You will learn that ...

Please read th Air guide here https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10683&t=396274

Unfortunately you picked on one of the strongest and best air unit the allies have at the beginning of the war. The flying tigers have been at it for years in China and are better pilots than most IJA ...

Struggling with Air Superiority

Hello all, my friend and I are both completely new to the game and have been running a Scenario 1 grand campaign after doing some of the smaller scale PBEM scenarios. I'm playing as Japan, and have been having a hell of a time neutralizing Allied air power in any theater (Philippines, Malaya and ...

Re: Luftwaffe night fighter strategy

Is there a trick I'm missing to getting detections with night fighters? I had a massive bomber raid hitting a German city at night and planned 5 different squadrons of night fighters to sweep down the line of their return trip to try and catch German NFs that were tailing them. There were so many ...
