Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

That was my initial worry, but eight is enough until Spain comes in, at which point you can easily build up to ten.

You have to get lucky to pick off the Courageous, though. So I just scoot (so as not to get plastered). You don't want to lose any ships at this point. The carriers will be confronted ...

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

"Interested in a naval strategy (not for Sealion, but a full Barbarossa) that will nonetheless chip away at British morale, preserve your force AND screen against invasion?"

Against the AI.

Start early.
1. Expose the subs so the DDs come down near Kiel, then kill them with your surface fleet ...

Are you taking about against the AI or against a human player? You can get away with a lot more with diplo vs. the AI than against a competent human player.

AI on expert level, NOT a competent human player!

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

What level of difficulty are you using? I have a different method of chipping away at the Brits, but with max difficulty I am too chicken to take on the RN in strength until later in the game.

Re: Yugoslavia

I don't fiddle around. I cut to the chase and invade in September and take the Italian option on Greece. If you go about it properly, you can be done with both by Feb. '41, giving you time to get it set up properly for Barbarossa (Late May or early June).

Yes. (Unless one cannot afford the decrease in range.)

Re: Naval scouting in SP?

Maritime bombers are ideal. Also, fighters (etc.) can scout. A sub is more durable than a DD, so consider either.

Mix and match.

Re: Axis Strategy in North Africa

I like to jump the gun on Africa and take Malta.

As soon as the fall of France is inevitable, I'll replace Kuchler with Kesselring, operate him, a Tank, an Army, a Corps down to ports, repair/upgrade them, and transport them to Africa and operate a fighter along with them. (Cruise a DD or sub to ...

Re: Invasion of Poland and France (and general axis warplan)

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I'm struggling with pacing in my invasions of Poland and France. These have all been games against the standard AI.

I see that Poland should ideally fall in 2 turns, but I'm usually taking 3-4 to close them out. Similarly, I'm getting bogged down ...

Re: Is it ever worth using diplo on minors other than Spain or Finland?

I go for Spain first, Because Gibraltar (taken when US joins). That allows me to combine fleets (I take out all German cap ships at start, but no DDs). Eventually screen off Torch with subs and a core of cap ships, maybe even intercept/sink them. Then if the Allies haven't saved Finland, it all goes ...

It gets removed from the force pool if supply was 0 when it was eliminated. No discount for rebuild if supply was 1 to 4.

Re: Invasion of Poland

Only two turns to take Poland with minimal loss. On Expert Level. (Easier on lesser difficulty.)

1.) XXI Corps: 2 South, 1 Southwest. Attack (2/1 and hope you get the 1.)
2.) 3rd Army: Attack (2/3). If you reduce Modlin Army to 4 or less, skip to step 4.
3.) Curse and swear and use air to reduce ...

I put the Italian Navy in and around Rome and Naples, away from both French and British. When France falls, I keep it all west of Syracuse.

Re: Does anyone upgrade existing HQs to better generals?

Yes. Replace v.Bock and Kuchler with Manstein and Kesselring. Not immediately, but sometime around the fall of France. Nothing else needed.

I send Manstein & AF to take Malta, Kesselring off to Africa early with a tank, an army, and a corps. What you do is up to you. But getting M & K into it early ...

Re: What to do to keep Greece neutral?

No need to wait on July.

Invade Yugoslavia early, September at the latest, and just eat it up, not risking high casualties. You can pipe down plenty enough to take it out in three turns, at most. Meanwhile get that spare Italian corps into Greece so you can take the southeast Yugo cities and block ...

Re: Warsaw Garrison Limit

Hold back a whole bunch of your builds until the last minute (with time to upgrade, maybe minor redeploy), then plop then down more or less all at once. In the meantime, get what you already have into position, while not violating the 18-unit limit. That way you can be sure you have enough of ...

Re: Does weather affects supply distribution?

Supply is judged by how many movement points away from the supply source.

So weather does affect supply when it changes the movement required to enter each hex (as in mud w/o road connection).

Re: Unit from Unit scripts NOT counting against build limits/showing up in queue?

Well, it does channel how much of what gets built. You can force-build to get that extra tank. But if you do that, you probably can't do the same for extra subs. One force composition for a Sealion approach, one for Barbarossa. And if you lose an "excess" unit, it can't be rebuilt, as the old limit ...

Re: Why does Russia have a Northern Europe FS requirement that it cannot meet?

Russia has issues. The best way I've solved them is to increase The Eastern ports to 250, ASAP, so you can refit out there. Meanwhile, improve Murmansk at least 3 times (and pray for Norway/Iceland). This added expense adds to Russian woes, but it's necessary. You will fight with inadequate portage ...
