Re: About the possibility of open Source code

Then you have never played The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940-43 (1979).

"A meticulously detailed war simulation that takes more than 41 days of play time" with the complexity rating of 4.69 / 5 for $1100? Not yet, but if I ever get into jail, I might LOL

That said, I ...

Re: About the possibility of open Source code

So as I understand we can expect the TOAW update at some point?

Here's the thread about that:

And if I might to your list of user wishes, it would be the complex logistics functionality :)

The Supply Module will be the next update ...

Re: About the possibility of open Source code

Time to update this again, since I just completed another 3316 lines:

"Note that 17,253 + 1,518 + 38,200 + 12,410 + 3,757 + 3316 = 76,454 lines of code I’ve written since starting. Since the entire code of TOAW is about 246,147 lines, I’ve written about 31% of TOAW’s code."

So as I understand ...

Re: So why didn't you buy?

I am on the edge now. I have tons of wargames (though in the end I keep playing just few of them), and each one requires considerable time commitment to learn them. So I am trying (without much success) to buy only those that I will most probably keep playing. For the context, ATM my top fav are ...

Yeah, I totally agree with you - and its development should continue, instead of being shelved. I think The Bloody First is a great platform to build on - DLCs, engine updates, more

Played for the first time and loved it - a true wargame RTS

Because of the Slitherine Anniversary sale decided to try the the renowned Close Combat series, and bought 2 newer titles (I fed up with "hacking" old games to run on modern systems, for example GG Pacific War is still unplayable after of hours of tweaking, which is a depressing disappointment for ...

WELP! No ruins or metal deposits!

Hi,

I am a total n00b, so I have a lot of trivial questions - thank you in advance for your time!

1) My colony was spawned in an area without ruins and metal deposits. There is some extractable water nearby, thick forest/jungles 1 hex away, and a minor faction on the other side, also 1 hex away ...

Getting started manual and graphic update

Hello,

1) I and my friends were struggling to start play Shadow Empire until we watched Edmon's short tutorial "Ruthlessly Simplified Getting Started Guide" where he showed the priority pointers. The game should come with such short "Getting manual" as standard , just like WDS game series - example ...

Re: SOS from n00b

Starfry is mostly spot on. How to fight requires a complex answer as it's broad so I'll add to it.

Firstly, recon is key. You will get more accurate odds and your troops will perform better, aiming for 400 is a good idea for important battles.

It's a good idea to attack repeatedly the same units ...

You gain ip from service tax on your civilian population, public and private industry. Public industry is gatekeep by its enormous amount of metal required to reach level 3 where its efficient. Unto, then, focus on exploiting free folk villages in the waste and raise your culture/city level to ...

Hello,

I am trying to get into the game once more - I love the vision of creating your own unique Scifi story, I can see that there is an enormous amount of depth, the atmosphere is truly inspiring - huge kudos to the music artist! BUT also the game is different enough from other games for a new ...

Q about Ground Scales

Hello,

I have a question about Ground Scales. I found this in the description:

Ground Scales: There are two ground scales in the game. The operational maps use 2500 meters (~1.5 miles) per hex. The tactical level city maps of Stalingrad use 500 meters per hex.

How does it work? Do these 2 ...

The short answer to your statement "A game that doesn't run on modern PCs shouldn't cost 80eur?" is I agree, but this is not your typical game purchase.

The longer answer is, despite the barriers to easily start playing with switches and patches to install, it is still a bargain at 80EUR if this ...

LOL sounds like it was unplayable from the get go :D

It worked just fine straight out of the disc box when I first installed it in 2010. It was a few months later before I started implementing the "switches" that were mentioned in the game updates. However, as the years passed a lot of new ...

The price is not too high for what you get.

There are so many different computer setups now compared to when the game was made that it is difficult for a game designer to have all possible combinations covered in the installation package. But there is a utility made that does the setup for you ...

[Just a discussion] A game that doesn't run on modern PCs shouldn't cost 80eur?

Yesterday I was happy to buy the discounted WITPAE for 18eur, but to my dismay I had to spend 2 hours finding technical workarounds for it to run on any of my PCs (yes, I found the dedicated post on this forum, and the dedicated section in the manual, and yet I had to keep adjusting the handles for ...

Use the command line Switches!

Thank you - you helped me to solve this issue!

My 2cents:
1) All available handles are described in the supplied document "WITPAE Manual Last Official Update.docx", page 10-11
2) Additionally I used the handler -altFontSize for a bit larger font
