Re: Just sharing my thoughts about tutorials

Sounds great! And it looks like a good start for a full play-through!

Just sharing my thoughts about tutorials

It's not a critique and I am not pushing anything, but I just wanted to share some of my experience/thoughts - please dismiss if you find those no applicable

1) There is a huge segment of players who prefer video tutorials. WiS has it covered - I think that @BananaConvention videos will be a blast ...

<..> And how will you make it so that players don't get badly beaten every time..

Planning for the defeat/retreat is part of the battle :) I am actually looking forward to the true AI, and I don't mind getting "badly beaten" - it's still part of the experience (but such players are just 0,001 ...

The news about the real AI is super exciting - I was wishing for that for ages! I know I will be loosing all the games but that's not the point - what's important is the process

I will buy the game just to support the devs!

Actually no, WIS is currently being tested on many different systems which different hardware configurations. Any new hardware may have issues but how can you plan for differences in technology that will happen 10 to 15 or more years before that technology is released for the general public ...

Re: War in Spain 1936-39 | Dev Diary #2

I recently asked a question about if WitP works on W10 and W11. Your post suggests it doesnt work at all?

It is a video issue. For your switches <..>

Finally I managed to get WitP up and running. Pointers:
It's not a video card issue - the switches (the engine) handles the hardware well ...

Re: War in Spain 1936-39 | Dev Diary #2

You need the correct switches. You need to put them in properly. You could also use the Seabee program to put them in for you.

I have been working with PCs and programming them since before MS-Dos became available (pre-Windows OS). In MS-Dos era it was all about switches, just like now you work ...

No, my post doesn't suggest WitP doesn't work at all, it's just unplayable - after launching with all correct handles (it's in manual, how to launch it, LOL), the map still uncontrollably ...

Re: War in Spain 1936-39 | Dev Diary #2

This and the previous blog post made me quite excited - new engine, new possibilities, great team. I too very much appreciate the detailed logistics, and can't wait to get my hands on it. And thank you for your detailed explanation why to do "War in the Spain" in the first place.

But as it's a ...

Then you have never played The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940-43 (1979).

"A meticulously detailed war simulation that takes more than 41 days of play time" with the complexity rating of 4.69 / 5 for $1100? Not yet, but if I ever get into jail, I might LOL

So as I understand we can expect the TOAW update at some point?

Here's the thread about that:

And if I might to your list of user wishes, it would be the complex logistics functionality :)

The Supply Module will be the next update ...

Re: About the possibility of open Source code

Time to update this again, since I just completed another 3316 lines:

"Note that 17,253 + 1,518 + 38,200 + 12,410 + 3,757 + 3316 = 76,454 lines of code I’ve written since starting. Since the entire code of TOAW is about 246,147 lines, I’ve written about 31% of TOAW’s code."

So as I understand ...

Re: So why didn't you buy?

I am on the edge now. I have tons of wargames (though in the end I keep playing just few of them), and each one requires considerable time commitment to learn them. So I am trying (without much success) to buy only those that I will most probably keep playing. For the context, ATM my top fav are ...

Yeah, I totally agree with you - and its development should continue, instead of being shelved. I think The Bloody First is a great platform to build on - DLCs, engine updates, more

Played for the first time and loved it - a true wargame RTS

Because of the Slitherine Anniversary sale decided to try the the renowned Close Combat series, and bought 2 newer titles (I fed up with "hacking" old games to run on modern systems, for example GG Pacific War is still unplayable after of hours of tweaking, which is a depressing disappointment for ...

WELP! No ruins or metal deposits!

Hi,

I am a total n00b, so I have a lot of trivial questions - thank you in advance for your time!

1) My colony was spawned in an area without ruins and metal deposits. There is some extractable water nearby, thick forest/jungles 1 hex away, and a minor faction on the other side, also 1 hex away ...

Getting started manual and graphic update

Hello,

1) I and my friends were struggling to start play Shadow Empire until we watched Edmon's short tutorial "Ruthlessly Simplified Getting Started Guide" where he showed the priority pointers. The game should come with such short "Getting manual" as standard , just like WDS game series - example ...

Re: SOS from n00b

Starfry is mostly spot on. How to fight requires a complex answer as it's broad so I'll add to it.

Firstly, recon is key. You will get more accurate odds and your troops will perform better, aiming for 400 is a good idea for important battles.

It's a good idea to attack repeatedly the same units ...
