Re: What games are you playing?

Harpoon V play-by-post, CS Vietnam, Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War, Tigers Unleashed, and Chancellorsville by WDS are keeping me plenty occupied.

Recommended DLC for newcomer?

I am finally going to bite the bullet and grab CMO while it's on sale over here on Matrix. I see that there is quite a bit of DLC for the game. Are there any in particular that come recommended, or should I just start with the basic package for a while? After falling in love with Harpoon Classic '97 ...

Thank you to the developers for such an outstanding computer wargame. This is not a formal review but rather some highlights for anyone passing by who is thinking of picking this up:

Manual typos/edit suggestions

I figured it would be good to consolidate manual typos into one thread. If the developers disagree, please feel free to delete.

I am reading the manual with an editor's eye as carefully as possible. I hope that it is helpful to the developers. Typos from the manual that I've found so far:

Re: War in Spain: engine choice makes sense — but I worry the theater choice may hurt the wrong conclusion

My two pesetas.....I am an American, and so don't have a particular connection to the Spanish Civil War like many of our Spanish and European friends do. That being said, this area has always been a personal interest of mine (Civil Wars, by nature, are inherently interesting), and nobody before ...

Re: Pink background on text

Greetings from the future. I just purchased this on Win 11 and I also have the pink background issue. I also had it with WITP AE but the switches fixes the issue but for WPO the switches in this thread don't work.
Has there been any breakthrough on this since the 2023 posts?

Re: Influence the future of Flashpoint Campaigns by taking this 5 mins survey!

I have all the iterations of Flashpoint since it first fell out of the womb. I do think Cold War is very good. I filled out the survey, but almost didn’t. To be honest, I would like to have some assurance that your team will stay the course on CW and polish it to the lustre it deserves before ...

Re: Do you think WitE2 is the last ‘big’ Grigsby-style monster?

There's another Grigsby game in development that takes place in the Pacific. I bet it will have a huge amount of depth like most of his other titles. As far as Eastern Front games go, though, I don't see another game "topping" this or outdoing it in the foreseeable future. My guess is WitE 2 ...

Re: Cold War vs. other eras

Shortly before FCCW came out, I read this book (which made me salivate for FCCW...)

It is a historical analysis of a possible war in Europe in the late 1980s, which starts with the strategic situation and comes down to how the armies of the various countries would have fought on the field. It is ...

Re: Cold War vs. other eras

A very interesting question. While doing historical games has its pitfalls, such as having to have every name and rivet noted properly, it does make folks get crazy on you in the forums. You do have historical information and setups that don't require creativity. In our case, in the land of the ...

Cold War vs. other eras

I would be interested to hear from the developers on the process of creating a Cold War wargame versus creating a wargame from other periods in history. From what I understand, most "Cold War gone hot" scenarios in games like FCCW or the ones from Wargame Design Studio are based on orders of battle ...

Re: Tactical Studies Series HPS Sims Question

I have just finished the tutorials for Tigers Unleashed and agree that the game can be a real resource hog with how much is being processed "under the hood." Frankly, it's all quite overwhelming right now. I had to drop down the number of cores being used to 4, as per the game's suggestion, so that ...

Re: Question- "Stance only"

This game is like a great looking shiny brand new vehicle, but under the hood the engine is broken.

I'm curious what you mean. Would you mind elaborating? I'm relatively new to wargaming so I don't have many other games to compare this game to nor any real-life military experience to compare it ...

Me too.

The scenarios, to some extent, reflect the challenges in the Pacific today.
Awesome! Let me know if you’re ever down for some PBEM, though I am still slowly figuring things out on my end…
