I would certainly like a new modern SP to cover more than just vietnam. On the other hand the Nam game does seem a more practical proposition than going all the way to 2005. I am currently looking at SP3:Moderna but don't really like playing with the larger units.

Thanks for the replies. I do not realy want to mess about with the oobs. The bailing out problem seems to leave little point anyway.Perhaps in a future patch we can have the option of buying empty bunkers (unarmed) for loading our own units.

Bunkers: Always crewed ?

When playing a defend mission during a campaign is it possible to purchase empty bunkers too put one's core infantry/mg's etc in. I am probably overlooking something but I haven't been able to work out how to do it.

<t>Yes many thanks to the whole team .Not only do we get a free game but continued support as well. Many paid for games don't bother. For me it is the continued support and ongoing improvement that have made the SP series the best computer wargames<br/>

In the Virtual ASL section of the TGN site there are a few Stalingrad boards for download. The Tractor Works ,Central Railway station and Grain Elevator. They have the emails address's of the map makers.Contacting them for their references could be worthwhile.

<t>I have done a few experiments. Dropping a FJ Plt and an Eng Plt 10 times each grass gives broadly the same suppression 0-2 for all.<br/>
<br/>
Dropping them on buildings givs a similar result. The FJ plt in fact suffered no suppression at all 5 times when landing on or next to buildings.<br/>

I agree paras would be preferable to regular infantry. But what about engineers? Flamethrowers ,satchel charges and laying mines .What I really want to know is if actual para units suffer less suppresion during the first turn after landing.

Parachute drops

When you do a parachute drop is there any advantage in dropping actual paratroop units instead of regular infantry. I bought 2 FJ Plts and as i had spare room in the planes dropped a regular inf plt as well.They both dropped and suppression appeared similar for all.

As to "How Many" I am on game 13 of a Long Campaign so I've not had much time for scenarios. I am starting to play the odd small one in between campaign battles for a change of pace but only 2 so far Baptism of Fire and Draining Dyhernfurth. I am afraid I am addicted to the campaign though.

I am using 3 4 man scout teams with 3 Kubelwagen MG's but wish I had bought 6 2 man teams instead. Far more useful I think. I did convert a couple of extra crews to snipers which I scout with as well.

<r>Have just played the train scenario Baptism of Fire I(as a break from a Long Campaign). Enjoyed it very much .It made a change to start a game in the centre of the map with the front line all around.Cossacks and more tanks turning up in turn 4 was worrying but by turn 6 the Soviets were contained ...

If you've got a pair of 88's stick them on a hill preferably in rough ground. If they can't take on the enemy at range their crews will start taking casualties far too soon.
Battles have been won for centuries due to holding the high ground

The "big" feature I would like in a future game is point to point movement doing away with the hex grid. Also "jones" mentioned plugging in scenarios/mini campaigns to an ongoing Long Campaign which I think would be great.

<t>For players in Germany by all means give the option of a flag acceptable in their country but I think that the default flag should be historically correct. We are not condoning Stalinism by using the Hammer and Sickle nor Nazism by using the Swastika. You don't learn from the past by covering it ...
