<r>Some good responses here. Mike has enlightened me as to one aspect anyway - I did not know that the cost of any unit has to stay below 255 in programming terms. sounds bizarre to me, but then again my programming attempts ended years ago and I'll believe the experts...<br/>

I agree with what you say exactly, but my main gripe is not that players resort to blanket fire of heavy ordinance - that is a legitimate tactic, but I object to it being such a CHEAP one. Again, using pre 1939 as the basis for many of my comments, no matter how cunningly you ...

My opponent in my most recent pbem game of V4.4 has just informed me that when one of my glorious Japanese aircraft dived out of the skies at the end of his turn and attacked his Soviet ground troops the pilot also helpfully sent a "radio message" giving away a great deal of the ...

Landing craft too vulnerable

<t>This is really just an information post for those at matrix, but I am in the middle of a pbem game playing the defender against a seaborne invasion and my 37mm and 20mm guns are proving absolutely devastating against landing craft. A single gun with 6 shots has a very good chance of sinking 3 or ...

<t>I have to agree with Spunkgibbon 100%. Also why are British tanks sometimes costed differently when serving with other armies?? Some corrections have been made since version1, but the firefly costs only 107 points when fighting with the Indian army, 30 less than with the British Army. This surely ...

Command and Control Bug?

<t>I think there might be a problem with c+c and movement in the latest patch, unless some reasoning has come into play that I am unaware of. Myself and 2 of my fellow players have experienced occasion where a platoon is totally unalbe to move even though it has a movement objective set and orders ...

<t>What I love about spwaw is the stability of the game compared to spww2. I have played a number of spww2 games and found that the game crashes for all sorts of reasons, sometimes on replay, sometimes when firing into an adjacent hex and sometimes for a reason beyond my understanding. Pressing "1 ...

<t>I think it is an error to state that the French army was overrated. Certainly the "Maginot Mentality" of the 1930s encouraged Daladier and his ministers to ignore European political develoments, sacrifice Czechoslovakia for the sake of Appeasement and ultimately watch Poland suffer her cruel fate ...

<t>This debate is getting a little heated and I think we are losing sight of the fact that surely all gamers would like to see a system that enables as close to "fair" gaming as possible. A great argument here. I think I favour Tomo and Victor on the whole though - the tiger is too cheap in relation to the T34 and a previous poster is quite right when stating that the British Firefly is very expensive when compared with its rivals.<br/>

Just to add a little to the T34/Tiger debate and relative costs I think it is very important to include the speed of these units when looking at their relative abilities. I have always found that the principal asset of the T34 is its speed around the battlefield. It can keep up ...

Version 2.1 - how long?

<r>To all at Matrix,<br/>

We all appreciate your work very much and it must be galling to have us point out the occasional bugs but is there a time scale on version 2.1? I ask because I am a manic pbem player and the vcr replay fix is a must for me and until I get it I cannot go back to a ...

I agree with the hairy man big time here - no VCR playback is going to cause all sorts of problems, and let's face it - the AI isn't half the test of a human opponent and it would be a pity to see the pbem feature made less workable because of other changes.

French off map ship support is extremely expensive, at least in 1937 anyway. Also the French Renault APCs seem to only carry 4 men which makes them a strange match up for the 12 man infantry squads in a mechanized platoon.<br/>

Paul,

Only had 10 mins to browse it through last night, but the Ktiger has rightly had its front hull armour upgraded, but not so the hapless Jagdtiger which is still set at 100.
