RE: The Misconceptions of WWII Ground Combat

<t> I think both of you guys are just a bit off the mark here. Tanks and airplanes were a really important addition to the development of warfare theories during the period, but I think that the most significant change in WW2 was an increase in willingness and technology to accomodate an improvement ...

RE: 'No Patton'

<t> All the threads in here are lame talking about talking about things threads. You guys are spending an unhealthy amount of time over arguing idiotic details and getting nasty in the process. It looks like its just a few people... perhaps you guys should start a "wasting time is fun" thread? Not ...

That said, there's no reason to disclude Patton. But Slim is something else. When we say allied we probably don't mean the Soviets right? If it did I'd like to recognize Lelyushenko of the 6th Tank Army against the Japanese. At ...

<t> Well compared to a lot of other German field marshals paulus's performance is left wanting. I agree with the whole depose hitler thing Golf, but your comment isn't taking the spirit of the post into consideration. I meant the right thing for the army to do. <br/>

RE: Operational advice needed

<t> Biggest difference from operational level games and tactical level games are maintaining unit order, making love to the roads, and balancing forces against your various objectves. Also, always concentrate a gang load of forces on the most important objective.. (at least on the offensive)<br ...

RE: Von Paulus

<t> If you're in charge of 250,000 of your countries best and brightest soldiers you better be lucid enough to not be described as 'too much a product of a regions traditions to do the right thing'. Paulus was a good staff officer and not a good army commander. Army commanders need to increase the ...

RE: Allied Generals in Iraq war.

<t> Is GENERAL really what we mean here? Does anyone here think that Brigade or even Divisional commanders should lead from the front?! Rommel was a nut case for taking the DAK for a ride at the head... There's a truckload of additional work he should have been attending to. Even armored/mechanized ...

<t> Oh man. I feel sorry for you guys. Being trapped in a lame argument is never very useful to anyone. Anyways, as far as who is responsible for what, no one should forget that regardless of little tid bits of information the SS were a nasty bunch of guys borne out of a fundamentally infantile and ...

RE: Who was better: Patton or Rommel

<t> I totally agree about Zhukov. He's got solid strategy and an iron will. This was necessary for Russia, and it worked. But is he the best general the Soviet's had? I don't think so. Chiukov stands out some among the rifle army commanders, and I think for the tank armies it's gotta be Lelyushenko ...

But they don't kill ALL of them. Most other fast units would no longer be useful as recon units, but motorcycle units are good for multiple mistakes.

RE: The tactical use of Motorcycle Troops

<t> They are easily among the most effective scout units in the game. They go ridiculously fast and since they take casualties like infantry they don't die upon contact the way armored cars or scout halftracks do. I would go as far as saying that motorcycle troops make recon a trivial matter ...

RE: A Personal Observation:Playing as the Germans

<t> The events of ww2 influenced our world in so many ways. It's not strange that people have strong feelings about it, the more you study it the more you realise how collossal a struggle it all was. It was SO MUCH in SO MANY ways. I totally sympathise with Ammo's stance on Germany and Japan, but in ...

From the pov of the Soviets would be a new and interesting experience. Go USSR! I think KG is right though, Soviet military history knowlege is available now in a way that was just not possible just 10 years ago.

RE: A Personal Observation:Playing as the Germans

<t> We all have one prejudice or another. I'm certainly prejudiced against the WW2 german SS, soviet NKVD, and the Japanese in general. The atrocities they committed are significant and serious. It doesn't stop me from playing as any of them in tactical wargames though. Hell, the only scenario I ...

RE: What I Would Like to See for a New MC..

<t> The problem with non major players in a mega-campaign is that it's gotta be MEGA! You also want at least a little variety, like a russian infantry mega campaign would be long enough but maybe a little too punishing. Same with italy, it's a big mean grind... scenario after scenario after scenario ...

<t> Ooohh, are talking Katukov's 4th Tank Brigade? That would be cool. I know about Katukov's career, but I don't know the details of the 4th Tank Brigade's (which quickly became 1st Gds Tank Bde) career. I still think for the action and variety that a tank company from 3rd Pz.Rgt of 2nd Pz ...

RE: Whole War SS

<t> Didn't Pegasus do a GD campaign way back in the days of SP1? Maybe I'm mistaken. The original panzer divisions have really interesting and LONG battle careers. I think a mega campaign that covered a pz co from the 3rd Pz.Rgt would be a good candidate cause of 2nd Pz.Divs resume of combat. Where ...
