Re: (Soviet) Brigades, "min. 50NM"-rule?

Looking at a save game file in WitE2, it appears to be limited to brigades, as smaller units in 1942 are showing an NM of 45.

Re: Maintaining Offensive Momentum

I'll ask Pavel re firing. There may be different unit size code for attacker firing than used in other parts of the game.

Soviet brigades minimum 50 NM should be added to the living manual.

Looks like it is missing and needs to go in the living manual.

Re: Maintaining Offensive Momentum

As for the impact of CPPs on fire combat, Pavel says combat prep has a direct impact on all types of fire combat. News to me, but not surprising as Gary sometimes slips things in without us getting them documented. Part of the mystery of the great Oz. :D

Re: Maintaining Offensive Momentum

This has me wondering about an item in the manual, from 23.8.1.

The force value of the attacking side is
calculated using the following values for each non-support,
non-artillery division unit attacking:
§§ Corps 15
§§ Division 9
§§ Brigade 5 (3 if the brigade has less than 2,000 men ...

Re: AA from adjacent hexes.

I don't know the details, but yes, I'm pretty sure that there are rolls that must be made in order to fire. Just because something can fire, doesn't mean it will fire (same in ground fire combat). IIRC, Pavel did some work over the past few years to try to get the combat display to more accurately ...

Re: Odd TB Truck situation

They do look different now, at least in my AI vs AI test games. I'm only finding a few units over 130% of vehicle needs. But vehicles are "sticky" in the TBs, and there's probably something that brings them down to 130% of need to try to prevent multiple turns over that level. Between 100 and 130 is ...

Re: Combat Resolution Window - Details block clicks

I'd almost guarantee that this is a game engine limitation that can't easily be changed. Pavel managed to stretch the engine in a lot of ways over the years, but some things are easier than others. He's always said that the combat report/window is one system that could use a complete overhaul (and ...

Re: Maintaining Offensive Momentum

I wasn't arguing that CPPs don't impact non artillery units, what I was saying was that as for direct impacts on fire combat, Gary had always told me that CPPs just helped defending artillery type ground elements in firing (and he may have been talking about just the long range artillery bombardment ...

Re: Maintaining Offensive Momentum

My recollection is that Gary has always said that CPP would benefit defending artillery (due to having pre-ranged in possible targets). I thought (hope) this was mentioned somewhere in the rules. If you found that non-artillery units were also getting a benefit in combat, that would be news to me ...

Re: What would you want to see in the editor?

Unfortunately, editor work has proceeded very slowly. Pavel was busy with other things, and had only slowly been working on the new editor as he found time. In early August, he had a small house fire that forced him out of his home office and he lost his computers. That set him back further. He has ...

Re: Marching Infantry T1-5 in GC

To me the key is to march them up to previously controlled territory, but generally not into hexes just captured this turn unless there's a good reason to do so (like screening the front line or maintaining a pocket, freeing mobile units to move on). The extra MP cost of moving into those hexes ...

When I click on the whatsnew.pdf file in my game folder to open it, it opens a tab that shows the name of the file. No idea why you aren't seeing the same. Yes, it's pretty trivial. :D

Re: 1.04.10 Beta - Air transport missions look strange

If by weird, you mean that it's not reporting the types of aircraft flying, it appears that if there are no escorts, that it doesn't list out the types of aircraft flying. It does list them in the air combat detail tab in the battle report. I tested the 1.04.05 official version and saw the same ...

Are you using the same version of the game you were using back in March 2025? Is this happening when you start a new game, or just when you load in a specific save game file? If it happens when you start a new game, I suggest you reinstall the game. If it's still happening after you reinstall I ...

Anybody know when the current beta is expected to become official? Trying to gauge if I should start a new GC now or wait for the full release if it's not too far away.

I can't speak for Matrix's timing, but I expect that we'll be looking at this with them sometime in September. So probably not ...
