Re: Finally got TBF

Hiya XE5, thanks for the reply. I shouldn't have come across as so snarky; I have an old machine, and maybe that had something to do with any crashes. As an old CC vet, I just start it up again. With WITP-AE, I needed to add 'switches' to the shortcut...I haven't seen any adjustments with TBF ...

Cross of Iron (CC3) - Still Unique and Valuable

With the ease of modding, the Campaign style, many maps and tools, COI is still worth playing.

Finally got TBF

Greetings, this is your old comrade, Blabsky. Some of you may remember me from last century. Just got TBF but haven't had a CC game installed for some time. This looks like fun. Regards!

RE: FOF error : Runtime Library - Assertion Failed

<t> This happened to me for the&nbsp;third time yesterday.&nbsp; Previously, I had to reinstall the game to get it to work again, and I didn't try to use saved games.<br/>
&nbsp;<br/>
To avoid starting from scratch again, I cut out the saves and moved them to another folder.&nbsp; Then, I used the ...

RE: Failing of the Assertion

Latest update:
&nbsp;
I re-installed, and started a new game and it works fine.&nbsp; Must have been an effect of my incorrect memory settings or something.&nbsp; Cheers!

RE: Failing of the Assertion

<t> The latest:&nbsp; I corrected my virtual memory.&nbsp; I had recently upgraded and neglected to change the settings. (Now I have 2Gb of RAM, and set the min. to 2G and the max. to 3G.)<br/>
&nbsp;<br/>
It still gives the error message as above; there is a line indicated: 199.&nbsp; And the ...

RE: Failing of the Assertion

<t> Will mess with the assigned virtual memory.&nbsp; The "increasing virtual memory" message has been showing up, especially during detailed battle, but it still would run fine.&nbsp; Problem now is the game wouldn't fully load; it was during the screen with the famous quotation before you get to ...

Failing of the Assertion

<t> Been playing patched version (previously, too, from around Sept), and no problems except failing to load a saved game once. Completed (or nearly) a few times Coming Fury, etc. However, a week or two into the latest got this message when the quotation screen is loading:<br/>

Infantry don't ride

<t> According to scuttlebutt, upcoming CC6 will have mountable vehicles, as was seen in the CCM.&nbsp; Infantry cannot mount vehicles in CC's I through V.<br/>
&nbsp;<br/>
It starts making sense to have that capability with the really big maps.&nbsp; On most map sizes, a vehicle full of infantry ...

Hope that helped, Drill, while you were at the PX.

Vietnam Campaign

There is a campaign included with Vietnam mod, "Three Tours." There is a map pack that is needed to play the entire campaign, but the first operation uses a stock map.&nbsp; There are no operations or battles included.

Pacific Mod Grand Campaign

<t> Joe, we're using the Camp from Ron's original mod.&nbsp; That campaign was lashed together from operations made by various old CC'ers back in the day.&nbsp; It lets you have command from Corregidor to Okinawa in a series of operations simulating the historical island-hopping.<br/>

The hull-down is somewhat modeled in the armor specs (lower armor is rated heavier than r/l). There is not an order for it, however.&nbsp; The terrain is modeled in .5 meter increments, and bears watching for protective opportunities.<br/>

RE: Correction Update

<t> Jonzie, I am messing with the teams again per this request.&nbsp; I noticed that Aussies were the only 60's.&nbsp; There's really too many big mortars for my taste anyway--maybe a few less versions of those can free up slots for different versions of the 60's.<br/>

Being a good officer

<t> IMHO, CC3 style campaign is very much centered on building your force in all aspects (it said so in the manual).&nbsp; All troops can gain experience, strength, leadership, etc.&nbsp; Pay attention to the long-surviving troops as a campaign progresses and there are rewards. Major Major

<t> Troops can gain rank, as&nbsp;they gain experience over the long haul. &nbsp; When playing a multi-operation campaign, heroic actions and kills will boost rank of leaders and asst. leaders.&nbsp; I have, in past CC3 campaigns, had command teams go all the way to major, and gunners in tanks and a ...

Tanks vs crunchies

<t> Real Red addressed the tank-spots-everybody problem, and Cross of Iron has those adjustments.&nbsp; It's not perfect.<br/>
