<t>Thanks, Mika, for the definitve word on travel between Canton and Hong Kong. I don't like this, but I think I may have found a way to use it to the advantage of the Allies. If I can con the japanese troops in to recapturing Canton with the troops in Hong Kong, they will be trapped and I can ...

<t>What's really got me irritated is that Phillips has been a great TF commander. He almost always surprises the IJN at Palembang and then promptly shoots them to pieces, but after all that the IJN transports still get through. I've got total control of the air and sea around Palembang, but the IJN ...

I was wondering that as well. They were of great importance to the Allied player because they could cause IJN transport TFs to abort, without much taking much damage from LBA. They were essential for delaying the japanese advance.

<t>I'm baffled why everyone is so concerned about Wake Island. It's only a level 2 airfield. My primary targets are those that can field tactical bombers. In a non-historical first move as the Japanese commander, I send a division of troops based in Tokyo (the 16th Div?) via Tokyo Express to assault ...

<t>Another problem I've been having is getting my beloved B-17s to attack enemy bases. They're great at spotting enemy TFs, but when it comes time to drop some ordinance on Truk or any other local bases, they just sit on the airstrips. I've got Gen. Brererton as the air leader for the SW Pacific HQ ...

<t>Why is it that engineers can build up the port and airfields, but air or naval bombardment does not reduce the values? Also, it seems that attrition due to starvation/disease (particularly in the Phillipines) is not well modelled. It is true that readiness is lost, but troops are lost only during ...

<t>What is the purpose of a war game, such as PacWar? Some would say it is to historically recreat a battle or campaign as accurately as possible. I would suggest that the purpose is to alter history using alternative strategies. If the game perfectly models operations in the Pacific Theatre, then ...

So you believed the Sales Rep when he told you the AMD processor was faster, cheaper and 100% compatable? I know several people with AMD processors and they have nothing but problems, especially with older game programs. I'll be surprised if you find a solution, but I do wish you the best.

<t>I think we're on the same boat, the SS Titanic. At home, I've got a Dell P-III (533 MHz) w/Win98SE and it works fine. <t>I've confirmed several things with regards to version 2.3: (1) It is 34 hexes from Tokyo to Pearl Harbor; (2) When using the "historical" first move (all 6 IJN carriers in one TF), the TF moves to within 3 hexes of Pearl Harbor and launches a surprise attack; (3) If you do not use the historical ...

Air Attack on Pearl Harbor

<t>As the Japanese Commander, I never choose the historical first move option (it's too conservative). I am trying to decide how to group my carriers for the inital attack on the American Fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor. Do I send all 6 carriers in one task force under Yamaguchi or do I split my ...

Out of Memory Error?

<t>I can run v2.3 on my P-III (850Mhz), Win 2000, Compaq (with 585k available to dos programs), but whenever I try to change the mission of my Allied CV based air groups, I get an "out of memory" error. I have no problem with my land based air only that on the CVs. Any suggestions? I really need to ...

<t>I haven't had to sink my teeth into v2.3 yet, but I'm sure it's a great improvement over v1.1x22 which I've been playing for some time. With the exception of my inability to defend myself from the allied carriers, I've had little difficulty in v1.1x22 overrunning the allies by being very ...
