A Suggestion Regarding Scoring

<t> Greetings All,<br/>
<br/>
First let me say that I absolutely love these games. East Front II was the very first pc game I bought and after scores of others since it is still my favorite.<br/>
<br/>
One of my most enjoyable pasttimes is designing scenarios for others to enjoy. I am currently ...

AI vs Pbem

<t> OK it's about time for (another) discussion about the values of both.<br/>
<br/>
I have a strong preference, but am equally respectful of opposing views, if well presented. [:)]<br/>
<br/>
One of my primary interests is to increase an ongoing participation in this outstanding game. Since it ...

RE: Doesnt anyone else play UV still?

I'm absolutely content with Uncommon Valor as well. It's far handier than its progeny - at least in email mode. Despite their common engines, subject matter, and interfaces, uv is simply a much more playable game.

RE: My most hated tactic

<r> Even in #17, holding Port Moresby against a competent Japanese player is nigh impossible. This is also a highly historical situation, even without the carriers lost at Midway. <br/>
<br/>
As usual, the Japanese employed half-measures to achieve their goals in New Guinea, as elsewhere. <I><s>[i ...

RE: Doesnt anyone else play UV still?

One uv game?

Actually very cool considering most players have moved on to War in the Pacific like you.

I have 9 uv games in progress and six WitP.

Anyone care to challenge this roster?

RE: Mines

<t> Agreed.<br/>
<br/>
A large part of the problem is that the Allies are far undergunned in mine-laying ops. In contrast the Japanese can sow extremely heavy fields within the first two-three months and beyond. Even though Allied mines are generally more effective than their opponents', the sheer ...

RE: Mines

<r> Good play Dragonlead. Sowing mines <B><s></s>at<e></e></B> friendly bases will almost always disrupt enemy bombardment missions, unless they are composed exclusively of BBs and CAs. Ships of lesser tonnage will certainly sustain damage. The mines' real effect issues from their placement ...

Mines

<t> OK having explored general strategic approaches on both sides, why not look at some more specific tactics.<br/>
<br/>
In this case I'd be interested in hearing about how players use mines in both offensive and defensive aspects.<br/>
<br/>
Some players eschew them completely, while others ...

RE: Scenario 16: Yamamoto's Prophecy

<t> I assume you're talking about an AI opponent here, no?<br/>
<br/>
If a human player decides to seize either Lunga or Moresby in #19, there is little the Allies can do to prevent it. Even quite early against only Sho/Zui and Shoho, Lex and Yorktown will most likely hiss noisily to the bottom ...

Uncommon Valor Allied Strategy

<t> OK guys, we've discussed what the Japanese should do, now how about the Allies?<br/>
<br/>
I've played many pbem games, but almost always as the Japanese. I heartily welcome any advice by Allied players or fanboys.<br/>

RE: Any Comparisons of CCAW and Uncommom Valor?

<r> Yep I agree completely with you guys. What I'd realy love to see is a realistic game of tactical carrier warfare.<br/>
<br/>
In my mind it would have to include the <I><s></s>strategic<e></e></I> deployments beforehand in order to influence the results. It's easy to forget that in the ...

RE: IJN Torpedo Bombers Overrated

<r> These are very good points, both historically and in terms of gameplay. In accordance with what you've explained however, #17 and #19 employ far more Japanese carrier air than Nagumo did either at Midway or in the Bay of Bengal. In these cases I would expect that multiple torpedo hits with such ...

RE: Uncommon Valor Grand Strategy

<t> I would expect nothing less from crsutton than his concise assessment.<br/>
<br/>
His second point deserves a bit more comment, as I think against an able and alert Allied opponent it is the only realistic path to a Japanese victory.<br/>
<br/>
Everything depends on points. Never forget this ...

Uncommon Valor Grand Strategy

<t> Hi Fellas,<br/>
<br/>
This topic has been discussed before, but in the interest of engaging newer players I thought it might deserve a return visit. It seems most of the conversation has been focused on force micromanagement and dare I say manipulation of the game mechanics.<br/>

RE: Total Noob looking for a fight...

<r> Hi Miller,<br/>
<br/>
Despite the two extremely short scenarios offered in the game (both of which I find a bit boring), I recommend trying #8. The action is fast and furious right from the start and is loads of fun for both sides. I'll play either side. If you're interested email me here ...

RE: Is ASW broken?

<t> Yes WitP is a different species with respect to sub warfare. It needs a serious fix. IJN subs are doomed at every turn.<br/>
<br/>
On the other hand, I get the impression that very few players have advanced to late-war situations, when experience for both USN subs and IJN ASW would naturally ...
