Land based bombers

Post by Miller »

Playing as the USN it seems that despite the fleets of B17's, 25's & 26's you get they hardly ever launch at any targets[&:]

I know things like morale, fatigue and supply level all play a part but I am lucky if each base can manage one decent sized raid a fortnight! Am I overlooking something?

Experiance needs to be in the 65 to 75 range for them to attack succesfully
and you will not see great results like your carrier attacks.
Flying at 15,000 feet will make you bomb a huge swath of ocean
killing many fish and no ships .
Radar, naval searches with float planes from different bases with rotation
and rest for your bomber squadrons every turn or two, set the bombers from 1,000
to 3,000 feet and vary it up and down a few thousand feet to train them up to the levels of 65 to 75 as stated above and then drop them to the deck at 100 feet and watch them strafe the crap out of the transports and skip bomb them into reefs. ( it takes a while for them to get to this point).
also sending them on regular bombing missions in between time will
get them into shape for the required missions.
The B25J'S are the best at naval attacks and save your heavies ( B17's ) for the
annihalation of bases as they are more suited for that and a huge waste
getting shot down for transports and destroyers.
At 100 feet your pilots will be done for several turns after an attack so rotate,
rotate and then rotate the squadrons.
1 guy mentioned a rotation of I think 5 squadrons a while back.
send out sqdrn 1 and 4 then on the next turn send out 2 and 5
then 3 and 1, 2 and 4 etc. etc. etc. thus 1 squadron is always getting
a days extra rest from rotation at some point.
send them back for rest after a while in combat to the larger rear bases for a
week or so and keep about 20% - 30% on training.
The more you spot task forces ahead of time the more likely you will
get at them but it does take time so be patient and keep them flying
for 3 - 4 months with constant rotations and rest.[;)]

Seams like a lot of work but the guy's who are successful are the ones
taking the time doing it.
This applies to all aspects of this game, paying attention to detail, planning
ahead of time, logistics and hitting them were they don't want you too
will make this game far more enjoyable and successfull for you. ( took me 2 years )

Exactly right sir. Despite all the beer I've consumed playing pbem matches, this is definitely not a "beer n pretzels" game. Good play requires consistently careful planning, and the balance between creativity and focused attention will favor attention nearly every time.

This is the true difference between AI and pbem play. The computer does a workmanlike job in its duties, but a clever human opponent always makes you think about the game at a depth unparalled by any AI moves. For those who derive their main enjoyment from whipping their opponent (whether breathing or binary), playing the AI is the way to go. For those who crave the intense mental challenge of the game at its best, there is no substitute for humanity.

I think that the the Detection Level of the intended target could influence, too.
