Re: 3D Unit Bit File Creation

Does the Campaign Series as it has evolved here allow for less than 100% opacity for the 3D figures and AFV's?

I made the 3D infantry figures the WDS people are using now for Squad Battles (3D models to 2D files), and went through a similar process using different tools. I used Stroke in Photoshop ...

Re: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress

This looks great. I like the new design, it is clear in what is graphically represented and the specific information the player needs is more readable. The old boxes were also causing me to squint too much, and (I'm telling myself) I'm not quite that old yet.

I'm enjoying these updates. It's going ...

Re: Making my first ABII map, and I have questions!

https://docs.qgis.org/3.40/en/docs/user_manual/style_library/style_manager.html

There are also older versions of QGIS that you can find on their website.

I'm still working slowly away at this map. The buildings are slightly sparser than the "modern" maps, as the goal is to be able to put some 1945 ...

Re: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress Redux

Somewhat related (I'll move anything further to the Suggestions area from here on out to not clutter this important thread)-

I did notice that I forget to re-check the checkbox options on the initial screen (full-screen, etc), and had to restart to select my desired options. That's on me as user ...

Re: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress Redux

Better and better, building upon already great stuff.

Are those hex numbers clickable, in order to get the camera to go to that location? That may help in the larger scenarios.

Re: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress Redux

Excellent stuff, greatly appreciated.

The unit boxes are the thing that I struggle with a bit in terms of seeing the values without squinting, as they are quite small with the larger screen real-estate. I'm not that aged, so I suspect I'm not the only one.

Re: Making my first ABII map, and I have questions!

Still plugging away at the map. I have learned a few things I'd do differently next time. I'll write 'em down for anyone else along a similar path.

-Use tree-lined roads as the default, rather than the dirt roads for minor roads. This breaks up the LoS between fields, which are everywhere in the ...

Re: Map Creation

An eras mix-up seems easy enough to do by combining databases.

I'm shelving that database knot for untangling later, since it is so inter-dependent. My goal is to finish the current map first, then finalize a small, concentrated set of building, infantry, and vehicle models, and make a scenario ...

I don't know what the developers are using, but Blender is the tool I use for making and adapting models (sometimes with Substance Painter for doing textures).

Re: Map Creation

I'll be moving anything more about my learning process on the first map the maps and mods thread, but I'll post a few pictures now that I'm 1/4 done with the first test. The map has a lot of good rolling hills in the lower fourth that I've been spending my time in. Even that needs a little more time ...

Re: Best Practices for Data Editing

I do have the new database separated out in my docs. It's a good system. Thanks for making a game so interesting to play, organized (in a quite open file-structure), and open to some tinkering.

I have been looking at the in-game database editor, which I somehow missed in all my map-editor-learning ...

Re: Map Creation

The thread is here (with the PDF linked in the first post):

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10290&t=331973

It was very helpful. I'd say that the QGIS side of things (which the PDF covers pretty well) is less important than I thought it would be. You could use it to grab the ...

Best Practices for Data Editing

I have a few 3D models that I am testing by overwriting backed-up stock files. I am now going to attempt to sort through the interconnected data files, which is a bit complex to keep organized. My first thought is to start a new database, and only enter the vehicle that I am working on and growing ...

Outside of Muncheberg, an old horse runs.

It will be interesting to see if I can mimic the early IR apparatus impact in the data.

Re: Adding 3D Models for Structures and Terrain

It would be really great for depicting specific places, where a custom 3D model could be used. I'd be fine working within the set underlying types, with maybe a category or two added at some stage for anything that sat outside those confines. Thanks for the reply. It's a very good game, and the ...
