Adding 3D Models for Structures and Terrain

Post by benpark »

Is it possible to add additional building types, or is this hard-coded to what we have available in the game? This could use an existing map-color code for a type that we have, but would be an additional use, with a different 3D representation of what we see.

I'm aware swapping models with existing buildings is possible (after poking around in the files), but I'd be interested in adding a few structures down the line for particular maps.

It's not possible yet, but a building rework is one of our main priorities, including custom buildings. Perhaps the custom building/object locations and types can be stored in the locations.xml. It will also need a resource file where the model and texture files are defined. It may be necessary to set somewhere how many map cells the object covers.

It would be really great for depicting specific places, where a custom 3D model could be used. I'd be fine working within the set underlying types, with maybe a category or two added at some stage for anything that sat outside those confines. Thanks for the reply. It's a very good game, and the editor is pretty decent as well.

What program or programs are being used to create the units?

I don't know what the developers are using, but Blender is the tool I use for making and adapting models (sometimes with Substance Painter for doing textures).

We also use Blender.
