I'm playing with the simple shader because it's the only way to make it so that the hills can be easily seen.

I'd prefer to play with the better looking option but I really dislike having to struggle to tell where there is a hill.

In the upper right group of game menu buttons the bottom one is "Exit To Main Menu". From the Main Menu you can exit the game.

I agree, tactical games like this are not really suited for a campaign. To me, this is like wargame chess with tons more variables and atmosphere.
