Re: Fatal Error preventing Gary Grigsby's World at War from starting (I'm using Beta Update v1.087)

10 years too late, but I was just messing around with some old files and ran into the exact same problem. What I discovered is that you cannot load just the most recent version. It isn't a full install, just the updated files. There are two versions available for download. You have to install the ...

<t> The other factor you might consider is that a lot of gamers want to win - no matter how bad they are at the game.&nbsp; As their skill improves, they just want to win more convincingly.&nbsp; And the final level of their "victory" is getting to the point that the game is not a challenge at all ...

I suspect they were locked because they were inflamatory and tended to shed more heat than light.&nbsp;

RE: Assault rule changes

<t> <br/>
I generally like the new assault rules. Armor should not be the unit of choice when attempting to take a city. The only real issue I have is the "superman bug" where a single leader can repel multiple armored assaults. A leader by himself might be able to evade capture and escape to a ...

If it is a serial number issue, then that has nothing to do with vista.... that's a, well, serial number issue.&nbsp; Are you absolutely certain that you are using the EXACT serial number that was assigned when you bought the game?

<t> I have JTCS and am running just fine on Vista.&nbsp; I loaded the standard download and then applied the 1.03 patch before ever attempting to run the game, and it would then run the very first time I tried it.&nbsp; But I had the "white flash" problem, which I was then able to address by ...

Upgrade versus Replacement

<r> Does anyone know what the specific difference is between a unit upgrade (with a + sign, normally done for combat units) and a replacement (without a plus sign, often done with command platoons) in a DCG? I've seen the official oob do it both ways.<br/>

To be clear, I am hoping to ...

RE: Data Encryption

OK, I removed the link so as to permit the board to be a pseudo-tracking tool for changes. At least I have my own little encryption routine for the changes I want to make as I play around. And if nothing else, it gave me a fun little project to play around with. :-)

I see your point, although there is nothing stopping from anyone developing an decryption/encrytion tool that decodes the existing encryption, as was done with the original series. <br/>
