Speaking of the large maps, I had a vision, I had a large house with a wall i could mount the maps, the mission was to to mount a magnetic surface on the wall (steel, oh my), so I could magnitize the back of the counters,... would have been epic, although I never realized the vision, pity ...

Combat Aircraft of WW2, by the legendary Bill Gunston. This is an excellent general resource. It's a bit hard to read the text but I was able to zoom slightly, which improved things.

The WW2 airpower series Clash of Wings. Walter Boyne, who was in the USAF, analyses The Second World War in the air. It's a good series. Here's a playlist of the entire thing.

The P-47 Thunderbolt. For me, it has to be the bubbletop versions. It really transformed them. They still look purposeful but much more modern. Such a crazy fighter, with a massive turbo behind the cockpit.

It's interesting to see how everyone learned you needed tricycle gear on a jet. I remember reading test pilots had to step on the brakes to get the tail up before it could leave the runway with the two wheel configuration on the Me262.
