My computer has just updated as if by conicidence i can't open the file, just tells me that it failed to open and even that the file is empty? Any ideas?

I am also disconcerted about the apparent lack of comments. As soon as I possibly can I'll download the update and play. I've been trying to get a a pbem started but it seems everyone who ever played has done a runner. Maybe Matrix can relaunch EIA in some sort of promotion? It's a great game ...

I've just bought Distant Worlds, I bought it for the empire building but am intrigued to find I can play as a pirate or bounty hunter. How do I set up the game to be a bounty hunter rather than empire builder? Thanks!

Better news, opening the game directly from program files runs the game without any crashing. I think I had also done other things that were suggested, but now I can actually play the game!
