RE: OT War games on Mac / Linux

<t> I'd say you're right. There's one catch, those other operating systems don't have the installed base to make the games commercially successful. In the long-long ago SSG did very well with their hex-based games on Macs (and they still run in Classic mode on OS X) - I certainly bought enough of ...

To be truly hardcore I'd want to only see the total points, if even that, for my opponent.

<r> I've done portions of Jutland in multiplayer using Naval Gunnery Campaigns. It's a PC game, Internet multiplay, and divisional-level campaign. The Run to the South, the BC action at the opening of the battle, makes for a great scenario for 2-4 people. The graphics need a pro revision, and it's ...

RE: Jap fighters are too good at attacking b-17's early in war....

<t> I had fantastic luck (under 1.0) with B-17s based at Rangoon pulverizing the airfield at Bangkok. 20-25 plane raids would destroy 30+ aircraft on the ground. I got air superiority in SE Asia in a few weeks. Buffaloes served fine as escorts against the Nates - Buffs have a *good* range.<br/>

The Chinese forces may suck, but I took Bangkok with Chinese troops in May 1942 (against the AI). If they've had MY luck the PLA will give them a medal.

<t> I've been having some weird retreats in the Rangoon area myself. I'm still holding Rangoon in late March 42. I've fought off the first attack, forcing a large stack of IJA units to retreat. They came back, minus the artillery they lost in the retreat. While the situation was in flux, I got the ...

RE: 6th Fleet HQ lost at sea

They still have 4th Fleet at Kwaj, but those are still replacements that aren't going to be bothering the Chinese. Not to mention at least a dozen transports sunk and a battleship burning like a torch.

RE: 6th Fleet HQ lost at sea

6th Fleet was headed in Kwajalein's general direction.

I'm still a bit tickled at the timing and the whole raid in general. LBA at Kwajalein put a torpedo into Enterprise, but she got back to Pearl with only 12% damage.

6th Fleet HQ lost at sea

<t> In January, 142 i sent a 3 CV raid West from Pearl. I caught a couple of convoys reinforcing the outer perimiter, and I put 20 bombs into the Mutsu (on fire). But the prize was hitting a convoy and seeing "Task Force 64 rescuing survivors from Sixth Fleet" no less than four times. I'm not sure ...

You want a copy of Irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/

Free, fully featured, powerful, flexible. It does batch renames and conversions too. That'd be actually worth money.

I had a Sierra Nevada on the way home. Why that brand ? They were out of cider (pear !) and that was the closest tap that wasn't a "national brand".

There's most of a fifth of Dewars for later. It's my VACATION after all.

RE: PT Boats

Hmmm. I'm going to have to break up my PT TFs into smaller chunks. But I find the effective range to be fairly high. From a base at Rendova I can intercept enemy shipping at Shortlands or even all the way to Buka.

YMMV

RE: I need to kill AGs

I was in, of, May of 1943 as the ALlies and was bombarding Buka. A Bombardment TF built around a fast BB and 8 CAs ran into about 20 AGs in two TFs. We got almost all of them :-)

Hmmm. Interesting. it could work. One player gives orders to his units, then sends a save file to his partner, who in turn forwards his results to the opposition.

RE: Real Noob Question, Sunk Ships

<t> Ships taking massive damage during surface combat can sink after a round of fire or after the combat. You also see followup strikes on small TFs (say, a carrier damaged the previous day) all fail to find the target because it sank.<br/>

Very few warships in WW2 sank in minutes. A few ...
