RE: Display Error/Plato MFC error

<t> Might be interesting to hear from anybody who has played a fair amount and NOT had the Plato MFC error, with details of their system. It might help to pinpoint the problem, I've installed a copy of the game from my back-up CD to my laptop PC (Integrated Extreme graphics) and unlike with my ...

RE: Display Error/Plato MFC error

<t> I've had a couple of similar sightings of a graphic trying to appear - to me it looked like two women in bathing costumes, though that may just be a product of my lurid imagination.[X(] It doesn't fully materialise, and I'm not sure that its linked to the MFC problem. The problem with detailed ...

<t> Re the manual, if your printer can do this, (which I think most can) set it to print two pages per sheet in "landscape" mode. This halves the number of sheets, cuts down on the ink used, and is still readable. For the eagle-eyed, I suppose it would be possible to print four pages per sheet ...

RE: Display Error/Plato MFC error

Get the Plato MFC error regularly, though not every time, when I end the game. Played one detailed battle so far, which crashed part way through, though I didn't note the error code for that.

Yes, no joy here as yet. I guess it's better probably to wait a while. As a Brit, I must say, though, shouldn't all you chaps across the pond be too busy voting to have time for downloading? Where are your priorities? Yes, I know....[:)]

<t> I installed it the other day, and so far the main problem I'm meeting with is at start-up, when the whole procedure either takes a much longer time than before, or hangs fire. My son tells me that its preventing him from opening links contained in e.mails., so that he has to edit, cut and paste ...

RE: Future of games like WITP

<t> As one of the oldies who started off with boardgaming back in the 1970's, the trend there too has been towards simpler quicker games. Presumably one factor is that the average gamer of either board or PC games has generally only so much time to put into a game. The ones with the greatest time ...

<t> Yes indeed.... LIke the time after my F4F's at Lunga had wiped out most of the the Vals and Kates on the Jap CV force, which was definitely ripe to be shark bait. And the GM4's out of Rabaul had done nothing for a week or more. Good time to send the "Hornet/Wasp" Task Force to finish off the Jap ...

I can apparently download it OK using IE. I can then apparently install it OK to the correct folder. But when I select it and click "play Scenario", I'm just taken back to the opening main menu screen. In other words it doesn't load....

<t> Build up your defences along the Imphal-Kohima-Ledo line. I've played the early part of 1942 twice so far. Both times the Japs have overrun Singapore, Rangoon and Mandalay well ahead of historical schedule, but both times they have run out of steam soon afterwards, and got involved in the DEI ...

<t> Yes, I've had similar situations. It certainly seems from your details that we can rule out the usual suspects like low morale and low experience. I've noticed that my a/c based in NE Australian bases don't do a great deal either. They have launched the occasional raid, but not nearly as many as ...

RE: Ridiculous

Yes, its the range factor with the TBDs. I've only seen them in action once so far (by July 42) and they didn't hit anything. The good news however is that by the same date the Wildcat F4Fs on the CVs are cutting swathes through the land-based Zeros and Bettys.

RE: Ridiculous

<t> We've really no historical data to guide on how US and Jap CVs would have shaped up to each other prior to May '42. Leaving Midway out of the equation as untypical, I'd agree that for the remainder of 1942 the opposing forces were pretty evenly matched. The difficulty with the campaign game ...

<t> Both in UV and WitP I've tended to discount the reportss of damage inflicted on Jap CVs unless they actually show up sunk in the daily intel reports. Time and again I've seen one apparently take damage certain to send it to the bottom, but a couple of weeks later its back.<br/>

RE: Ridiculous

<t> It does seem pretty difficult for an Allied CV force to repeat the kind of results in 1942 which happened historically. After a few very painful encounters with the KB etc, in previous playings of the campaign game going up to the end of June 1942, I've come to the conclusion the wisest strategy ...

<t> Up to late June '42 in the Campaign Game playing Allies against AI "Hard". Currently AI leads by 17and a half K to 7 and a Half K. I've also imposed a few historically-based "House Rules" on myself. I'd expect this one to run into at least 1944 as well. Again I'd estimate the campaign game ...

RE: Surface Combat Sux

<t> This does seem to happen frequently in surface combat. But although we see the action as each ship firing in turn, they are actually presumably all engaging simultaneously. The "screening ship" idea may be part of it, but surface combat commanders do seem to have a habit of ordering all their ...

RE: How long does it take to play a turn?

Playing the Allies against the AI, in the Campaign Game, I probably average about four 1 day turns a day. But being semi-retired, I have more time than many, and once I reach the point when the Allied counter-offensives start in earnest, I'd expect to slow down.
