RE: Corsair Tranfere?

<t> Historical notes:<br/>
<br/>
"The first Navy squadron to receive the F4U-1 was VF-12 at North Island, California, followed shortly by VF-17 at NAS Norfolk, Virginia. The first Marine Corps squadron to receive the Corsair was VMF-124. Despite the F4U-1s high speed and maneuverability, the Navy ...

RE: Effective use of submarine chasers (SC's) and minelayers

<t> IMO, the best use for SCs is as "Betty Bait".<br/>
<br/>
Once you get good fighters, put SCs in the port with good CAP and watch the Betties waste themselves trying to kill these insignificant craft. They'll get some kills, and 1 point each, but more important, their fighter and bomber force ...

RE: Suicidal carriers and cowardly pilots

<t> Thanks for the additional replies. The list of don'ts for Scenario 19 is very useful. I'll just use my carriers against transports and avoid getting anywhere near the JP carriers or Betties until I can get some better fighters and experience for the pilots I have.<br/>

RE: CVE air groups???

<t> I think the US CVLs come with planes, but the CVEs, at least the Long Island, don't.<br/>
<br/>
IMO, the best thing to do with the CVE Long Island is to send her back to Pearl. This seems to have a big effect on their likelihood to release other, more useful, ships.<br/>

RE: A little bit frustated

<t> I think it is reasonable to assume that the AI of each TF in the hex is going to maneuver within it's 50 mile length. Also, that the AI of CV and AK/AP TFs will attempt to avoid a surface combat TF and since CVs are usually faster than BBs, they should be able to get away or at least stay away ...

Barges and Barge Hubs

<t> Please correct me where I am wrong. This is what I understand from having read the manual on the subject:<br/>
<br/>
1. Designate BASE X as a "Barge Hub" (Tulagi, for example).<br/>
<br/>
2. When a supply ship is in the Barge Hub with supplies on board, click "Activate Barges" on that TF's ...

RE: refuel at sea via a AO

1. Make sure the oiler has fuel loaded. Load it the same as if you were sending it to supply a base.

2. I click "refuel at sea" on each TF I want refueled and it seems to work just fine.

Shipping routes

<t> When doing transfers of ships between Noumeia and Brisbane as well as corrections of routine convoys suddenly gone astray, I've noticed that ships use a simplistic, single hexline route to their destination instead of a more direct, zigzag route. The worst part is that the routing takes no ...

Allied routine convoy wierdness

<t> I'm running scenario 18 and since November 1942 I've started to see some of my routine convoys go crazy and head off for the other other side of the map instead of the destination I've defined. While I haven't totally identified the original destination of these convoys, they seem to be headed ...

Allied barges for scenario 18?

I'm playing scenario 18 as my first because it seems the most historical of the long scenarios.

Anyways, it is now December 1942 and I have yet to see any barges available for creation. Do the Allies get barges in this scenario, if so when?

TIA!
