Re: T-80 vs M1A1

This sort of thing is nearly impossible to arrange to everyone's satisfaction. I mean, we are talking about a war that never happened. We can make some educated guesses, but unlike say WWII, we can't "go to the tape" and see actual results from which to extrapolate. The best we can do is work with ...

Re: Why the WinXP user interface??

A lot of folks are saying essentially the same thing, albeit from different perspectives.

The UI/UX needs to work . Part of "working" is conveying critical information clearly and with a minimum of complexity. Even if the underlying models and data are highly complex, the interface needs to ...

Re: Why the WinXP user interface??

The UI is serviceable, though I would like to be able to futz with the text size and readability a bit, and change the background from stark white, that sort of thing. The one thing that I do think is a bit annoying is the way it handles windows. I would like to be able to have multiple windows open ...

Re: how do you transport units ?

I've had units where the transported troops are KIA but the transport vehicles survived. Ergo, empty vehicles. Vice-versa as well.

Re: Why can we see artillery kills from unobserved hexes

Eh, I see where folks are coming from, but none of these things bug me. I figure that in reality there are a lot of things going on that aren't modeled in any game. Sound, civilians, local phone lines that survived whatever is going on, stragglers from other units, that undefinable but very real ...

Re: Not sure if this is a bug, noticed that IFVs relucted to use ATGM to engage other IFVs

This is actually one of the things I really like about the game. It strikes me as a good approach to a complex problem, having the IFVs fire their autocannons at other lightly-armored vehicles while reserving their (far fewer) more powerful ATGMs for tanks. The autocannons are not likely to ...

Re: New! v2.1.0.6794 Public Beta Now Available!

Appreciate the work being done on the "little things" that add up as QoL bits. It ain't easy; that bit with cert renewal, adding ESC-key functionality, stuff like that is not sexy but super useful. And there are so damn many of them!

Wombat, My mouse wheel, scrolls the OB tree in the Spotlight and also any of the Staff reports. What dialogs are you seeing a problem with? Can you get us a screenshot?

Re: Game mechanics questions (standoff, relocate, resupply)

Game development is full of stuff like this (well, software in general, but games are a special sort of case): you fix one thing, you break another, and often you don't notice it immediately because it's all so freakin' complicated. Oh, and gamers always manage do things no one thought of or could ...

Re: Shocked by Soviets Mot. Inf close combat efficiency

I suspect that in 1989-ish the Soviet mechanized infantry units had a lot more close-in firepower than the M113-carried US equivalents. Their doctrine was also much more about getting up close and personal (largely because lingering at range meant certain death from NATO's far superior long-range ...

Wow, batch files in 2022! Thanks for this mod; it's a cool and useful addition. Brings back memories though of writing batch files to set memory allocation, shadow BIOS, install mouse drivers, etc. Shades of 1995!

Link doesn't seem to want to open, at least for me? I'll try again in a bit.

EDIT: Never mind. I had to copy the link and paste it in the URL bar. For some reason, it doesn't like to directly open French links I suppose! Probably my browser is a secret Francophobe!

Re: Is this game worth $60?

I agree with the OP; it's one of the few games I've seen recently that is pretty unequivocally worth the asking price. Admittedly, a 50% coupon didn't hurt :-) but I probably would have bought it at full price anyhow. The amount of coolness they crammed in here probably should be illegal.

That's probably good advice. For returning players, the Tutorials are great though. I really appreciated the way they brought me up to speed on things, and how the third one especially drove home the hard lessons the game teaches....

Re: Out Now...?

I was happy I had a 50% coupon, even though I do think at full price the game is still worth it; at thirty bucks it's a steal. More importantly, I have to hand it to the dev team; this is a very impressive piece of work. The overlays, the SOPs, the maps and info displays--all really well done. And I ...

I've been looking forward to this as well. I got in the beta but then couldn't post on the forums and before I could get that resolved I had to get a new PC and...well, you know. But what I saw was fantastic.

I do wonder if, ahem, certain world events which have pointed out the lack of capability ...

Re: Which core game do you think the CS Legion should do next? - Pick two

It's not on the poll, but it struck me that a really cool area to look at might be obscure, smaller or irregular conflicts in the modern era. The system seems well-suited to things as disparate as the anti-colonial struggles in post-WWII Africa and Asia, up through the 1980s, to clashes in Kashmir ...
