None of that is relevant though. When you have a unit you think will see action you must set its altitude. At that precise moment, what do you set it to? That is the only question I am interested in. Pilot quality, defensiveness, type of ...

<t> CAP does work against searches, although combat animations are never shown. If you can place a large CAP over your TF, then when you check the aircraft losses screen next turn you will often see kills. Small, one-aircraft elements sneaking up on your forces will always be hard to stop completely ...

Shattered Sword is the best western account - by a country mile - of the Japanese perspective on events. It's a recent release, is meticulous in approach and does present new evidence.

Highly recommended, Captain...

Jeez, I got off lightly. 1 BB lost at Pearl (another in dire straits), but PoW and Repulse survived with only 1 torp hit on Prince and another dud. Buffaloes from Singapore got involved, which may have been the difference.

Definately get Japanese Destroyer Captain.

Black Shoe Carrier Admiral by Lundstrom is also every bit as good as his First Team series.

RE: Letters from Iwo Jima

I'm not American, but I didn't see TRL as portraying the US as bad guys. Just as guys, really. It did show tortured and mutilated US corpses which hardly portrays the Japanese as saints.

It wasn't a patriotic film either, I grant that, but it wasn't trying to be.

<t> I dunno, that fact that some Japansese questioned the authenticity of the portrayal in Letters (including folks who initially backed the film), leads me to think maybe they have a point. The dog shooting scene for instance, just doesn't ring true for me; nor do a few other things with the more ...

Going from memory (obviously I could only watch it once), but it's a remark to Affleck's character by an RAF Squadron Leader or Wing Commander.
