RE: Unfreeze the Soviets please

<t> What's horrible is conquering western & central USSR, then taking one territory at a time from the eastern USSR as the Germans with no hope of USSR counterattack, because there is no rule for unfreezing the entire Eastern USSR upon *German attack* if Japan has not declared war on the USSR. Why ...

RE: My conclusions on game balance

<t> I agree about holding onto to PPs for at least a few turns. This prevents last minute "suicide rushes" where the Axis blows its forces in a pyrrhic victory to grab that last PP in some region, overstretching its forces in the process--and the enemy doesn't even get their own turn during that ...

RE: does invasion of Canada unfreeze USA?

<t> I agree that US should unfreeze with Canadian invasion..AND probably certain other South American countries. There is no way in hell the US would have ignored an invasion of either country as "fighting in Europe that doesn't involve us". The frozen sea zones I think should prevent Mexican ...

RE: Patch 1.1 requests

<t> For the love of Dog, please change the popup on the Resource screen to DELETE the words "rail net"--newbie players are being fooled by this. Change it to something like "resources reachable by friendly/neutral land regions and sea transports" or something suitable, so that anyone using the ...

RE: Some AI weak spots

<t> Yeah, I've sent in a few saves with bugs and one pair of saves that showed particularly egregious behavior where the computer ignored the Caucasus while stuffing Moscow with troops. The Soviet AI is very afraid you'll take Moscow...so much so that it neglected to even garrison Western Kazakhstan ...

RE: Research points???

<t> The max research points per turn into any research area is multiplied by the difficulty multiplier of "going above world standard". It costs nothing extra to get to one point above world standard in an attribute. To get to TWO points above world standard, all research costs are doubled by TWO ...

Eastern USSR zones need additional unfreeze opportunities

<t> In the manual, it's noted these only unfreeze if Germany falls or Japan declares war on the USSR. What if Germany is so successful that I control all Western & Central zones? This is certainly not likely to come up in most games, but the freezing represents the fact that Japan & the USSR did not ...

RE: WaW CPU usage

<r> Ah thanks for the insight. So DirectX doesn't let you defer/avoid screen updates when the draw surface isn't visible, eh? Guess windowed mode isn't really given first-class treatment under their programming model. Too bad, since it really is an event-driven game with plenty of opportunity to ...

WaW CPU usage

<t> I run it in a window since this prevents occasional crashes after alt-tabbing out. However, I've noticed even with the window minimized the CPU usage is still 30-40% on my HyperThreaded system (which corresponds to 60-80% on a one CPU system). Is this a programming error, or a deliberate use of ...

RE: Important production tip to new German players

<t> I thought it was odd at first, but there is otherwise absolutely no point to a region with a resource center but no rail that's inland. You'd never be able to get it unless there was a factory in the very same region. I'll just live with it for now, since otherwise half the regions on the map in ...

RE: Axis: Some thoughts on winning the war with production points

<t> It appears the resources come for trade come out of the resource pool. So if you get down to one point in the pool for Sweden, they can't trade with anyone else because they will offer only zero (one-half of one rounded down). THen the next turn starts and it goes to 1+3 = 4 with half (2) being ...

RE: Saves needed

I've sent in a save game showing the Soviet AI's stubborn refusal to garrison the Caucasus (& also western kazakhstan) despite there being a threat to both zones from Northern Persia, while a large pack of units strolls around the central zone instead of being SR'd down there.

<t> Quite right about seizing Norway and needing only one transport. I like to leave Norway neutral because I can hide behind the straits with my two transports. A lone transport in Western Baltic is probably toast though . Even the entire German Navy in Kattegat is probably toast if the WA have ...

RE: Axis: Some thoughts on winning the war with production points

<t> To answer Dalwin's question, which also baffled me for a while, you need 70 sustained production points. That means you need 70 factory output PLUS 70 resource centers under Axis control on the Axis resource network.<br/>
<br/>
So if you have 75 factory output of Axis in one turn, 100 points ...

RE: Axis: Some thoughts on winning the war with production points

EDIT: corrected my post to note that unenterable zones (like the Sahara) don't count as neutrals. You can flow your resource points through neutral & friendly land zones otherwise. So for the sub-saharan Africa, you do need to use transport s to get your resources out of there.

RE: sound bug in production screen

Sorry Pappy if you don't have HyperThreading or multiple physical CPUs, you will not see the set Affinity option. If you have the production screen thrash bug then you should definitely report it to Matrix otherwise they'll think it's only on Hyperthreaded CPUs.

RE: Important production tip to new German players

<t> I agree with Dalwin. I never do more than one-half-rail repair in Netherlands & Denmark.<br/>
<br/>
Something else deceptive in the game: screen F7 (production summary) tells you how many resources are not "in your rail net". This is a lie! The help tip is deceptive--you do NOT need ...

RE: Italian Units?

<t> If I recall AH's Third Reich docs, they stated that the Italians had two parachute divisions (Nembo and Folgore) and so you got an airborne unit. Googling around seems to confirm this. It does seem surprising that you can build an airborne corps though and not a real infantry in this game, but ...

Launch Task Manager<br/>
Right click WaW.exe and choose Set Affinity...<br/>
Change WaW.exe to use only CPU 0 instead of both CPU 0 and CPU 1.<br/>
