Well we have been moved all the way over to the other coast to advance against the Germans at Agedabia. Now is the time for some major revenge. It is April here in the desert a very beautiful time of the year. We will begin our advance early in the morning at 5:O"clock it is still a little dark. The tanks have already begun to warm up there engines for the move to push back the germans. The visability is only 250 yards which should be to our advantage as it means we will ingage the German armor at close range and no long range shots from them. By the time they see our tanks we will be close enough to tear them up.

The north objective is on the west side of a small hill. it is located almost in no mans land. A co will reach it way before the Germans do. then they will move to the west slope of the hill and set up defensive positions and wait for the Germans to come over the hill.

The center objective is on the east side of a small hill. Too far for B co to reach so they will set up on the west side of the hill and pick off any germans who try to move to our rear. At the right time they are to move over the crest of the hill and retake the objective from the Germans. This is a matter of timing too fast on the move and they will run into a hornets nest on the other side.

The Canadians have the longest distance to cover to reach there objective in the south. They have at least 500 yards thru tough terrain. the Germans will have reached the objective before them and have set up defensive positions. I have no doubt they will be able to retake the area. They are a tough bunch of men and really up for this battle.

I hear the men begining to move out this battle has begun. For the glory of the Empire and the King may God have mercy on our soules. Give us the strength and determination to defeat our enemys today.

A co has taken the northern objective already. They have moved to the west slope near the top of the hill that was east of them. Have already taken out 3 251 halftracks and 0ne 251/10 Halftrack and the squads that they were caring. have driven at least 3 squads of troops back over the ridge.

B Co has moved to the west slope of there hill near the crest of the hill. They too have taken out at least three of the half tracks as well. 1st Platoon of B co has been killed in a heavy assault by the Germans. Also lost a squad of LMG a few minutes ago. There south flank has been hit hard by FJ Troops. At least 2 companies have struck there extreme right flank. They have held tho and pushed the Germans back over the crest of the hill.

C Co in the south still have at least 150 yards to reach there objective. Have run into stiff resistence as they got close to the objective. Several men have perished in there advance. But they continue to push forward aginst very heavy opposition from the Germans. They took out at least 2 squads of the FJ type infantry and 2 HMG squads pus maybe 5 251 type halftracks. No heavy tanks have been spotted so far. Although there is reports of one PZk IIIg being sighted in the far south. Have moved a platoon of Matilda towards that sector to try and intercept him. So far the Germans have done what we expected of them. they have taken the center and south objectives and have begun to try and push towards our rear. Now it is up to our lines in the center and south to hold and inflict as much damage to any advancing troops the Germans throw at us.

Thia has turned into a hell of a fight. We have had 11 tanks knocked out so far. A co has lost two full squads plus two ATG and 2 mortars plus losing 2 LMG and a ATR to boot. They also have at least 5 squads down to less then 5 men each. the Germans sent at least 34 tanks in a counter attack to take back the northern objectives. we have taken out at least 10 of these tanks so far. They have busted thru our defenses and are within 50 yards of taking them as i speak. There is a 40mm AA gun sitting on one of the flags putting up one heck of a fight trying to save the ground. He has taken out 3 tanks by himself and has at least five tanks within the 50 yard radius of his stand.A Co has spread out his left flank and is moving to come up behind the advancing tanks. have been able to pick off at least 3 or 4 tanks what were straggling behind this wall of steel as they moved right by our defenders on there right side. We have attempted at least 70 frontal assault on this mass with only one successful attempt. The engineers have not been able to lay any satchel charges on this bunch either. In at least 25 trys not one tank was taken out are hurt. The loss of our atg on the left flank of the Germans has really hurt us.

B in the center has not managed to reach there objective as yet. They took most of the German tank advance as it moved across there front towards the north. They too have lost 2 full squads and most of there platoons are down below half strength. They are within 100 yards of there objectives but are meeting very heavy resistence there. At least 1000 germans have met there maker today but they keep coming in mass.

The Canadians are in even worse shape then this. Almost every squad in the company is down below half strength. Only 1 tank sits on a flag by himself he has taken outt 5tanks and is holding only by a slim thread. He has the support of 3 squads of engineers who are almost useless against the heavy tank assault of the Germans here as well. The machine gunners on the Pzk IIIg are cutting our men too pieces.

The battle field looks like a picture from Hades what with all the dead Germans and the lifeless broken hulks of torn and split open tanks laying every where. There is a heavy haze covering the whole battlefield. This burns your eyes and clogs your nose with its stink. Its not even 6oclock yet and already its hotter then hades. I could drink a gallon of water im sure but i must control myself. I do not want to run out of water before this battle is over. it pains me but this is worse then the fight we had with them in france. At least there we werent going crazy with our thirst.

I only hope we can wrest a draw from them and not another terrible defeat as in France. We are knocking out at least three to our one but this is not the way we wanted this fight to go. I am hoping that the platoon of tanks in the north can pick off there tanks one by one and send them back to where ever they came from. I am really in a delimma here I dont know how i can save A co in the north and get rid of all the dam tanks. Inever expected at least 30 or more tanks to hit one of my flanks. Our matlldas are doing the best they know how but just dont have the fire power or the armor to stand up to such an onslaught. Plus at least 20 tanks hit the south flank.

If today we can come out of this with men standing and some tanks left it will be a miracle.

The battle looks very bleak for us at this moment. The only good thing that has happened is those masses of tanks have made what i think is a major blunder. After over running our troops in the north and taking the objectives there they turned se towards the center. They then had to run thru B company in the center who was coming to the aid of A co in the north. We have been knocking off there tanks at an alarming rate as they move thru the thick of b. they came north and took the objective but did not try and hold it but headed back to the center one to help there. At one time I counted 32 tanks there may have been even more I could not see. They are headed back south with less then 12. But A co has had very heavy losses tho. So far from the reports here is our casualty report I have recieved so far.

A Co 1st Platoon 3 squads gone 2in mortar and Lmg team lost. Plus a HMG team and all there sappers the full platoon have been killed. All four of there atg lost plus both there 40mm guns. I told you before about the heroic stand of the one 40mm team at the objective. He was overrun by five tanks at the same time as he valiently tried to hold the ground. I was unable to get anything to help him in time but we will avange his gallant stand.

Co B Ist platoon 2 rifle squads as well as there atr. 2nd lost a rifle squad and there ATR as well. Third lost a squad and there atr also a hmg gone. One sapper squad along with 2 atg with one team ran off from there gun. a lone gun is sitting on a small hill pounding the remaining tanks as they speed by his position. he has already taken out two of them and done damage to 3 others.

C CO is in even worse shape I believe. The canadians have been in the thick of it ever since they moved to within 200 yards of there objectives. Co C 1st platoon is gone completely. 2nd has lost 3 squads and 3rd 1 squad plus a hMG . they are still putting preasure on the Germans at there objective and slowly pushing them back.

We have recaptured the north flags and hold them with what little we can muster. We are within 100 yards of capturing the middle flags as well. I do not see with the force I have left how we will reach the rear objective today. If we take the front flags I just dont see how we will have the force neccessary to push the germans back that far in the time we have left. less then an hour and a half to move them back another 1500 yards.

Although the men we have lost is staggering it does not compare with our losses in armor.
Co D 1st platoon 4 tanks lost
Co D 2nd Platoon 2 Tanks lost
CO D 3rd platoon 3 Tanks lost
Co D has 6 tanks left and 2 of them have lost there main guns.

CO E 1st platoon 3 lost tanks one imobile
Co E 2nd platoon 4 Tanks lost the other one is imobile
Thats 9 of fifteen no use to us any more that leaves only 6 tanks in e company left that gives us a total of 12 tanks to try and take out god how many tanks the germans have left.

We captured a German tank crew in that north fight with them. The markings on there uniform indicated thay are from the XV Panzer Grenadiers. The same outfit we lost too in France. It really gauls me that we could have taken a small grain of pleasure to have beat the crap out of them on our second meeting. It just doesnt seem to be our luck to have the upper hand in any of the battles when we go up against them. They have a overabundance of tanks every time we meet them. I must admit they are an elite group of fighting men and tough to get the upper hand on. If any of us survive this hellish battle today maybe we will get another chance to whip them.

It will take at least most of this year for us to regroup and rebuild our command to what it was before today.

This terrible battle is over thank heavens for that. We took a heck of beating in wresting a marginal defeat against the XV Panzer Grenadiers here today. They were very tough and hard to beat. But at least we inflicted worse damage on them then they did to us. We lost 633 very brave men today while we sent 1534 of there men to hades. We lost 4 artty 50 mm mortars while taking out 12 of theres these being mostly of the 81 mm type. They lost 18 apc while also losing 104 of those so called super tanks. But we lost 22 of our own as well. Just goes to prove that there tanks in large numbers can be beaten with guts and determination. After we beat those 32 tanks they sent north and they swung south to try and take the center and the rest of them were destroyed, it was clear sailing to the rear objective. Not much in the way of resistence was encountered. That is when we came upon the 81mm mortars and took them out. there was maybe 2or 3 squads standing in our way these were quickly disposed of in a timely manner.

We have been told we will get new replacements for what we lost and then we are to prepare ourselve for a move to somewhere near michili to advance against the italians. This should not be as tough as the fight here today. They have no where near the armor that the Germans had to throw at us. The only thing is we will have a lot of new replacements to fill out our ranks. Lost a lot of our veterans today. This will hurt us im sure but the vets we have will bring the new men under there wing. Im sure they will handle there selves very well against the Italians next month. After all we have went up against them twice already and did very well in the two battles.
