Perhaps poor Przemcio bit off a little more than he can chew with the veteran AdmSpruance. I like the Rolling Thunder campaign so early in the war. [:)]

I already told Przemcio that his setup would end in a small disaster, he is just spread to thin... I rather have the SRA fall easy through overwelming force and have to fight in the south pacific, than take the south pacific with ease in the first month and have to struggle in the SRA...

The jap carriers arround the SRA al al but spend, are you planning on bringing extra troops from India to Java now you have controll of that area for the next few weeks (until the rest of the KB returns) ???.

Why not sneek in some SBD squadrons from your carriers, you aren't going to use those in the next 6 months anyway. You can retreat those SBD's back to darwin if the area gets TO hot. Think about hitting those 4 KB carriers at PM with your own carriers (if they are in the area). You have a good chance of sinking 1-2 of them for 2 of you own...

wild_Willie....Thanks for your comments. As a matter of principle I wont commit US Pacific Fleet assets west of Port Moresby until my counteroffensive starts in 1943. Good idea about the SBDs though....100 of those in Java and KB could take a beating.

As for the USN CVs, Sara and Lex just completed covering a massive reinforcement of New Caledonia....2 divisions, engineers, aviation personel and 150 fighters. Sara and Lex have been steaming all over the Pacific since 12/7/41 and are due to return to the US west coast for maintenance and their March 1st upgrades.

As for the SEAC units....India based units ALL stay in India. I wont even send them to Burma(until 1943).

SITUATION REPORT: 2-4-42

An already bad IJN CVL situation gets worse as SS O-21 puts a fish in CVL Ryujo.

I really do not get Przemcio. Even IF he took Palenbang, you could bomb the SH*T out of the oil facilities within 2-3 days. In our game, I will not take palenbang until I have secured the ENTIRE SRA send 10 or so BB TF's and 300 bombers or so to bombard the shit out of it..... He is REALLY spread to thin....

wild_Willie....Im not allowed to bomb the oil at Palembang. Przemcio has basically told me that if I bombed his oil/resources then there was no reason to continue the game. I guess that is a more effective defense than flying CAP.

Oh well, if I cant use my B-17s to hit his oilfields I might as well use them to kill his A6M2s(read on).

SITUATION REPORT: 2-11-42 DEI: THE BATTLE FOR JAVA

With IJN transports heading NW from Timor it looks as if the Japanese are going to land on the South coast of Java(possibly Malang?) CV Zuikaku and CV Shokaku are sort of providing escort for the transports. A Japanese bombardment TF with 4 BBs and 4 CAs is heading up the Java Sea from Balikpapan possibly to put the airfield at Soerabaja out of commision once and for all.

With supply starting to run low on Java ABDA is limited to air operations from a handful of airfields. Japan has massed over 250 fighters and bombers at Kuching and Balikpapan to support their invasion effort.

The day begins with a pre-emptive Allied airfield strike on Kuching with B-17s:

Day Air attack on Kuching , at 28,56

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 69

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-46-II Dinah: 2 destroyed
A6M2 Zero: 11 destroyed
G3M Nell: 1 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 5 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
287 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 67

Then the Japanese try to return the favor at Soerabaja but the AVG and some USMC pilots are waiting for them:

Day Air attack on Soerabaja , at 22,65

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 49
G3M Nell x 75
G4M1 Betty x 35

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 4
P-40B Tomahawk x 24
P-40E Warhawk x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 11 destroyed
G3M Nell: 5 destroyed, 7 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 6 destroyed, 5 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 2 destroyed, 3 damaged

Allied ground losses:
10 casualties reported

Runway hits 13

Japan loses 58 AC today including 35 A6M2s and 9 Nells. Allied loses are 20 AC including 5 B-17s, 7 P-40Bs and 2 P-40Es. A2A loses are 19 Japanese to 11 Allied.

Then the Allied naval bombers go to work on the IJN bombardment TF in the Java Sea:

Day Air attack on TF at 23,65

Allied aircraft
Swordfish x 7

Allied aircraft losses
Swordfish: 7 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Fuso, Torpedo hits 1

Day Air attack on TF at 23,65

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 16
Martin 139 x 20
B-25C Mitchell x 3

Allied aircraft losses
Martin 139: 5 damaged
B-25C Mitchell: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Hiei
BB Yamashiro
BB Mutsu, Bomb hits 1

Day Air attack on TF at 23,65

Allied aircraft losses
Martin 139: 5 damaged
B-25C Mitchell: 2 damaged

The Allied naval bombers then get some licks in on the transports off Palembang:

Day Air attack on TF, near Palembang at 20,55

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 4

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 18
Martin 139 x 3

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses

I really do not get Przemcio. He is sending in a BB TF to bombard a base, ok, but at least make sure they arrive AT NIGHT and then make sure they are out of torpedo bomber range during THE DAY..... When in doubt, send in a Bombardment TF with 10 CA's or so on full speed to start with....

I think I am right to assume that you guy's are playing a "stock" game, in this game, Japan can't afford to loose so many pilots, so early in the war.. He is operating on a shoestring (again) to get his objectives and it is costly to him. He will undoubtely take Java and singapore in the end, but at what cost.... He is lucky you aren't playing NIK mod 5.0, in there his baby KB would have been toast already.

I do not know about singapores AF, but consider a shuttle bombing run with your B-17's against Manilla, remember, he can't see that plane movement in his turn.....

Anyway, nice to see that the Japanese can't run completely willy-nilly over the SRA!

SITUATION REPORT: 2-12-42....JAPAN SURRENDERS

Im not sure but from reading my opponents other posts I believe CV Shokaku and CV Zuikaku were sunk today off Java.

Ive posted the final score from the day before and a couple of interesting things stand out. Japan lost 292 A6M2s in 2 months of war...almost 25% of their total AC losses. And Japan suffered about 30% more AC losses than the Allies.

We both moved a lot of LCUs and ships around for 2 months but it seems as if it all came down to the air war.
