An unusual request

Post by Alikchi2 »

Hi - I'm looking for a semi-dedicated partner who would be willing to test out my scenario with me. [:)] Either side works, we can talk about house rules later - but I really need to test this thing!

"This thing" being my mod, Iron Storm (Scenario 50). Here's a link to the website - http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~tgh4635/manual/

Anyways, I'm up for a short game (I have created a "tutorial" scenario along with scenario 50 (full war) if you want to do that), or up to six months. I don't think this will be a full game, since I'm sure we'll find some kind of bug or another, but I might be willing to take someone up on one after I release.

Bear in mind I have a pretty busy "non-WitP" life so I can be inconsistent on terms.. patience is required. [:)]

Thanks!

Very tempting.... there are times I might not be able to get a turn done for a couple days, usually during the week, would that be a problem?

If not, then I might be up to play a short game with you.

No problem at all.. [:)] I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there's only a 50/50 chance I can get a turn done on those days. M-W-F and the weekend I should be good for at least one turn a day, probably two+.

I'll work on tidying up the mod (a few loose ends left, maybe a couple days before I upload a public beta version to Rogue's). Any preference for a side?

Also - Andrew's a bit busy and the scenario hasn't been converted to his new map yet (still on version 4 as of right now). We can wait or play on v4 expanded (if you have it).

Whatever, whenever is fine regarding the map & such. Just let me know when you are ready. I'll be setting up a seperate install for it since I don't have a CHS install presently. What engine is this on, 1.795 or 1.602?

As to the side, I stick with the Nips. Truth be told I don't expect to go 'all out' since it is something of a playtest, so I might be able to keep the turns going at least at fast as you.

1.795 as of right now. A seperate install would be best - IS conflicts with CHS (I've had to replace/move some art).

Allies sound good to me - I'll still be feeling around as well. A lot has changed since the last playtest (hopefully you fare better than I did - tip, wait for the KB before you invade Malaya by sea [:(]).

I'll PM you when the file's up and ready for install.

Yes, I did read your AAR if you recall. You were a bit too bold maybe? [:-]

I think so. 4 CVLs versus 5 British CVs = lots of sunken Japanese ships. [:'(] You'd think I would have known better, seeing as I put them there. First-time-playing-Japan syndrome, I guess..

You should have the capability to do rather better - the British are still strong, but instead of the majority of Eastern Fleet being at Singapore on day 1, a lot of the bigger, nastier reinforcements arrive over the first month or two. We start with 2 CVs, 1 CVL in Singapore, versus 2 CV, 2 CVL in Cam Ranh for Japan. So in trying to compensate for the balance in the previous game I've screwed myself over for this one. [;)]

In all seriousness the play should be a lot smoother this time around. The CV forces are roughly equal and with Beauforts and Nells at Singers and Saigon I predict an impasse until KB arrives. You may prove me wrong though [;)]

I will do my best. Be sure to let me know if there are any parameters (ie house rules) that need to be applied to your scenario based on the changes you have put in there. Like I think with Nik mod you can't fly over certain altitude or something like that?

I've added Nik's air-model changes, but not his flak changes, because I'm not sure about them really. So that's basically unchanged. [:)]

House rules:
Hood must be left immobile (large reconstruction) between 6/43 and 6/44.
Airgroups that arrive in Middle East must be transported by ship, not flown into India.

I think that's about it. The only thing I've really done to change the way the game works is throw in Nik's mod, so it plays more-or-less the same.
