Resolutions

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Resolutions

Post by JudgeDredd »

I don't know what the next in the series is for this game, butI would like to be able to buy it.

Unfortunately I won't be unless other resolutions are supported.

I bought Crown of Glory and, whilst it looked a fantastic game, the user interface was woeful - and that was due to the lack of support for my LCD monitor which, like alot of LCD monitors, have a native resolution of 1280*1024. Any other resolution and the interface is a non-starter (even Windows and the text looks ugly!). The general graphical interface is bad enough, but the text is the worst...ending up in my eyes hurting and having to switch off.

In the end I had to give up on the game. The same, I fear, is about to happen to HoI2...which I love also.

Please, please support other resolutions!

RE: Resolutions

I've been experimenting in allowing both windowed/non-windowed modes and have rewritten some of the graphics init code to allow more flexibility in this area. (By "windowed/non-windowed" I'm refering to DirectX terms.) This would allow higher resolutions, but there's still substantial work to get each screen and popup dialog to be able to conform to variable screen resolutions.

So it looks as though it may be possible to do this for the sequel, and if it is not too difficult, we may patch COG to support this as well.

At the very least, I think we can get COG to run in a 1024x768 box on a higher resolution background. I've been able to play COG at 1280x1024 without any loss of function, but there are a few bits-of-ugliness that will take a while to clean up.

If we get the higher resolutions working, the interface would still be designed around a base 1024x768 layout, but we would be able to use the additional space to show larger views of the maps.

(What I, personally, would really like is to add multi-monitor support.)
