can't run Play development system

PDS doesn't start (game itself runs). A message box appears : Component Mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered : a file is missing or invalid.
my os : Windows 2k 5.00.2195 SP 4

Did you uncheck the required Game Components during installation? This error would be caused if one of the game components was not installed.

FYI, you can try reinstalling. If you had the Game Components checked and for some reason this is still happening, you can install the control manually by following the instructions linked to in my post below.

Ok, that's perplexing, but I assume that for some reason on your Windows 2000 system the installer isn't getting that file into the right place. It's definitely included and the installer did it right on all the test systems. Try using the Microsoft redistributable installers I've linked to in my post above and see if one of them resolves the issue for you.

I'm curious to here if anyone else is having this problem. Is it specific to a particular SP level of Windows 2000?

I don't own the game, but this sounds like a similar problem with the software I support. The OCX files can be self-registered. In WinXP it uses the regsvr32.exe file - I am not sure if Windows 2000 uses the equivalent. Here is what I suggest.

Click the Windows Start button, select "Find" and do a search for the file mscomctl.ocx - make sure you have ti search the entire hard drive.

After you find the file, note the path the file is located in. For example, it may be something like C:\Program Files\Maximum Football\drivers\mscomctl.ocx (like I said, I don't have the game, so that is juts a hypothetical path).

Once you know the path, click on the Windows Start button, and select "Run". in the window, type this:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Maximum Football\drivers\mscomctl.ocx"

(the path and name of the file, should be encased in quotes). Then hit OK to run. If all goes well, that OSX should register, and you should get a confirmation message of this registration.

mscomctl.ocx should be found in either the Windows/System32 folder or the WinNT/Sytem32 folder depending on your operating system.
