PBEM Turn Sequence

Post by JagdFlanker »

mabe i should be posting this on the WitP forum since the developers are more likely to pay attention there, but i don't read or play WitP and it's just for discussion anyways so i'l post it here.

since turns are executed simultaniously wouldn't it theoretically be more "productive" if the game made each side do 2 turns per email? for example in each email phase:

do japan turn1 ->EMAIL

do usa turn1 - turn1 execution - do usa turn2 ->EMAIL

watch turn1 execution - do japan turn2 - turn2 execution - do japan turn3 ->EMAIL

watch turn2 execution - do usa turn3 - turn3 execution - do usa turn4 ->EMAIL

watch turn3 execution - do japan turn4 - turn4 execution - do japan turn5 ->EMAIL

and so forth...

does that make sense? if turns are daily, then it'd be nice to get the games flowing a little faster, if you know what i mean. i'm not sure if many of you have heard, but they are planning WitP II now and this might be a better way of coding PBEM in the future.

just a thought!

I like that usage. Commerce raiding of the new WitP guys to get better commerce raiding in WPO. Brilliant! [:D]

Same problem like with IGOYOUGO systems...if you trust your opponent then it is OK, otherwise...what if he store your mail, do orders and run execution...something is worng, so he use your mail again, redone orders and run execution, repeat until satisfied [:(]

If one intends to break a system, he will - eventually... it's a tradeoff: speed for security.

well, it seems since currently the jap turn generates the execution he can cheat all he wants as it stands now anyways. save his turn before he ends his turn, then end his turn, watch the execution, and if it doesn't execute to his likeing go back to his pre-end save.

you can never truly stop cheaters anyways, and if they have to cheat to feel good about themselves then they have bigger problems than wanting to win! reward those who love to play the game, not punish them because a couple idiots don't know what the word 'fun' means!

No. The Japanese player will not get a chance to save before the execution - and WPO will generate the same results for combat sequences of the same game. So the way it is now there is no way to go back and change things...

...unless you have 2 separate installations of WPO on your computer... *shudder*

Separate installations of WPO won't generate different results for the same save. You need to have different WPO executables which doesn't exist at the moment.

And what about uninstalling and then reinstalling WPO?

well, that's the whole point - if somebody wants to cheat they can. i can never understand that mentality, but like i said cheaters usually have bigger issues than just being a cheater, and once you'v been around long enough you notice the world is full of nutcases so there's no point in fighting it!

but if you can "pre-result" 1 set of battles, i'm sure you can "pre-result" 2 sets of battles - isn't it just a matter of pre-recording a second set of rolls or something? and if you execute after the first turn i'm sure the game could keep track of what saves were made during your entire 'phase' (give them all unique ID #'s it would record for itself) and auto erase all the pre-execution phase saves before the execution is shown so you don't go back to the pre-execution phase (and erase it if you try to put it back in the save folder). yes, you could move those saves to another install of WPO to redo them again but it's still no better than we we gots now! perhaps a little more complicated to program but it can be done! i don't necisarily think it has to be done, but it'd be nice!

This is turning into an adrenaline rush chase - to find a way to cheat just to say that you could do it :p
