So, I would take that he would make a single massive thrust somewhere. If I where him I would try an split the allied forces in two! (I'am no ground combat expert either)

Well, I will try this Nik's mod when I get enough freetime to start a new campaign since what I read in this forum it will make this great game even better [:)]

Nik has done some nice work in China with his mod. In 2 of my games my op has pushed me out of some of those level 9 forts....BUT at great cost (300K to 500K massed troops taking heavy losses over months of combat) as it should be. China was a side show and Nik has more then made it that.

That is one of the reason why the next game will be using this Mod! China was an sideshow and another important thing is that CV's are actually vulnerable in this Mod! [:)] ..as they should be.

Too bad I didn't use this Mod when I started the game againts Erstad. Oh, well as soon as things settle down a bit in IRL I will start another PBEM [:D]

...and I do appreciate these AAR's since they give valuable insight how the mod is working in longterm.

Nik mod is great imo . It adresses a lot of the initial game play issues and RL issues as well. and does them very very well. I've been waiting for 2 days for my next turn ( v unlike 2ACR) .. i can only guess he's busy with wedding stuff [:D].. june if your ineterested.
my only observations in china is that chinese armies could mass and clobber the japs in an anrchy game .. maybe add higer forts to jap front line areas too ?? . I intend that china is a backwater in this game .. no 4E bombers etc.. maybe some late war advances but not in 42-43.. rest and dont use supply .. save and save and save ..

BTW RRob .. thanks for reading an posting .. always glad to see someone who inspired me to do an AAR here .. ( you vs xargun 1st edition) .. hehe

points screen will come aztez .. when i get a turn

I'm with aztez - I plan to try out this mod, too.

But I have to ask you Rob, what's a "anrchy" game. [:)]

the phrase came during my vacation so I may be off...but my understanding is that it means gloves off. No house rules just run wild and do whatever you have the combat power to do.

Oh - "anarchy". That makes sense. At first I thought that was one of Rob's worst typos & he was trying to type "stock" or something like that. [;)]

The Chinese armies, even en-mass tend to do very poorly against Japanese bases/cities with decent fort levels. The lack of engineers and high exp troopage really hurts here. However, after reviewing the AAR's and after fiddling around with my own PBEM's i'm planning on making some more China adjustments that will help the Japanese defend a little better (adding forts to Nanning for one thing as its now too easy to take back)

Mainly i plan on lowering airfield size and SPS to give the Japan player some breathing room from the "insta-Allied counter-air offensive" that the new static situation encourages. The lowered SPS will force overbuilds which will burn supply and take time.

sounds like a good idea to me .. P40B's long range needs to be used in china. spits and hurricanes flying over the himalayas ?? well i suppose they could .. could they ?

whats SPS mean???. Btw i agree that its far to easy for the allies to over stack fighters in the China theatre to take out those poor Sonia's. The lack of aviation support units in the region should have limited such an adventure, but the aviation support "limits" don't seem to work very well in the game as i can easily stack 90 planes at a base with 30 aviation support units, and get most of them off the ground.

SPS - max base size for airfield. I plan to reduce the forward Chinese cities to airfield 1 to represent their undersupported aspects and inadequate logistics and the SPS will be 2. Allowing an overbuild to size 5. This will support heavies but only after paying the cost and giving the IJA a heads up that airbase construction is going on in their midst.

Av support - Yes. something i've been aware of for some time. You can get away with supporting many times more aircraft than the av points support as long as you don't take too many casualties all at once. Like an LCU being "undersupplied" having av points in the red simply means that airplanes repair a little slower depending on the size of the gulf between av points and av points required. I've been toying with an idea on that.

I like this solution because one aspect (side effect) of the fort 9's is that they immensly improve the China supply situaiton and with such generous airsupport (in terms of size at least) lying around already, you have what you've seen....instant Alied air-counteroffensive. Now it will have to be paid for and the Japan player will have time to prepare for it. (in theory of course)

As a rule of thumb i never overstack beyond AV size, unless they are on a transfer mission elsewhere. Gamey play imo, but do-able with the rules on hand.

Nanning does need beefing up for japan. and i am happy with size 1 afields too. As i tend to only use fighters as 'traps' over the bombed areas. sometime work .. sometimes dont ,, just ask my I16 pilots .. still very very depleted in india on training 90%.

May as well use this thread as a chat room untill i get a turn from scotty, he's never been this slow before, hope all is well his end (texas). and he's just away for a few days and/or busy.

Goggle mail is playing up too. so that could be the problem. But i have alternate e-mail and nothing there either.

So .. may as well ramble away on and off topic[;)] .

Nik .. your mod is being very widely used all round, take it as a testament to your time and effort placed on this puppy . and once more . thank you. lets hope 1.8 won't muck it up [;)]

and where is 1.8 ? seems like months ( well it has been months ). Hopefully the new blood on the programming team can speed things up a touch. Even Ron said he'd shut up . and that has to be a first [:D][:D][:D]

Well back to game.. plans thoughts and opinions

Its early march 1942.

singapore is holding out well .. supply is low and the air transports were caught last turn. so wont waste bombers doing that for a few turns.

Manilla .. big AV value .. iirc 1700 ish. supply again is critical .. orange but not red (yet).

Burma is quiet. heavy jap fighter sweeps periodically over anadaman and mandalay have made me wary unless its a critical mission i.e supply to andaman. even then its a one way trip.He didnt catch the RAF in the air so pilot quality ( such as it is ) is ok. The ex-manilla P40's are refitting upto a 72 plane group in Dacca. will boost fighter numbers considerably in this theatre. one thought is to send them via andaman/sumatra back into java .. than extracate via timor if possible. Well boost aussie defences in the long run. still to decide on that one.

Small air units are being left on burma and china front line bases so he does not spot a sudden deplyment as the a/f icon lights up. Silly rule that one . should only be shown is intel/recon is available in theatre. maybe some sort of radio intercept 'range' from friendly bases dependant on year. Allied sigint is as per usual pointless, I check it most turns and usually see ( ooh the manchuria HQ is in harbin , well fancy that ! ) pointless rubbish.

Timor.

Koepang now has an aussie bridage at 100% str and low malarial losses so the local 1/2 str garrison back in australia getting quinnine and bed rest. CD guns here ant at Lautern ( might be a suprise) also some dutch/australian small forces in lautern and dili dili. enough so that engineers can progress forts levels. I am also attempting to enlarge lautern to a size 2 ( same with kragen) as a torp bomber base for 1E planes.

soerbaja now at a size 9 port has probably laid over 3000 mines in various places. kragen 1000+ balikpapan 800. and bali 1200. Its tricky doing all this under the betty umbrella but LR Cap seems to be deterring unescorted raids and all 4 Minelayers are going overtime.

Batavia was recnetly reconed .. does that mean he can see Force Z in port ? any ideas ? i'm nicking ALL the oil from here ,, its virtually empty. fuel is being stolen at a prodigios rate too. I'm concerned over paradrops in sumatra and java. but i dont want to spread too thin.

This may be gamey but ive taken 50 support from ABDA HQ to australia *( via AP) not sub. as australia needs HQ's once the DEI is out of the fight.

PI troops will stay and die .. no evac from here. I have been wrestling with this for some time. what do you all do here ?

As you have seen Canton is a major distribution hub but it's not impregnable. Noumea is (for now ) pretty weak .. 2nd USMC and americal will be assigned here. I'm thinking baker is indefensible against a good player so i'll not waste time here yet. 3-4 months and ifs its still mine than maybe.

Finally almost have a regiment to midway. I waited a long time to do this for fear of carrier raids. Johnson and palmyra were a lot easier. Also finally got fuel here too.

The north pac forces are still in a right mess. most now in anchorage with norpac HQ and they are still heavily depleted ( lots of disabled squads in the RCT's etc.) .. seem to be taking an age to recover. lots of supply here too before anyone asks[;)].. Nome's naked :)

The canadian airforce is waiting for enough PP's to transfer to the pacific. 4 more PBY and 2 Wellington groups will help a lot here . Wellies now over 70+ experience. PP's are however like gold dust right now.

Ive set russia on buld forts etc. and recieve replacements just in case [;)]

He has amassed 18 japanese units at henchow ?? in central china . Think i must have been asleep for a few turns as didnt notice it before. Extras sent down from cungking before they were fully repaired unfortunately. HQ support in china is a bit sporadic , with a lot places needing more. I have tried to balance this out redistributing HQ's but there aren't enough.

Well thats my latest summary .. lets hope i get a turn and we can change this thread back to an AAR soon.

Once again thank you all for reading ( even the quiet ones [;)])

Just to let you know people are reading [8D]

I definitely approve of bringing Soerabaja up to level 9 - mines are evil evil good! I think I got Palembang up to 2000 mines in a game I had once. Just plain nasty [8D]

Hope to see the game going again soon. I'll ramble in reply to your ramblings. [;)]

Any chances of sneaking more supply into Manila? I've been reading Tom Hunter's lunacy thread I he did that successfully coming from the east and then around the north. With that much AV value, just one AK could make the fight last a lot longer.

My thoughts on Manila evacs are still developing, but not only is evacing fragments of everything gamey, but it's stupid too. By the time everything builds up again it'll be 1943, and they won't be needed. More PPs spent that way too. I'm trying to pick a handful of key units that could make a difference in the short term (base forces & the like) and evac large cadres of them.

Sounds good at Koepang. Maybe one minelaying run down there to team up with the CD guns?

It's possible now he could see a BB or BC in port at Batavia now.

How about a counter-attack in Malaya? LOL

1.8 -

lol....well i'm glad at least one person seems to be focused on the next patch vs. thinking about all the goodies and fixes they want for a future "WitP II" No idea as of yet on the ETA. I'm confident that it will be not too long though now that MikeW has some additional IT resources in the form of Don and Joe. Here's hoping they can nail the worst bugs with some KABLAMMO. [:D]

not a hope in hell of getting an AK to manilla. betties/vals and kates operating from north borneo. and nells etc. in davao and now in Tarakan. Its bad enough trying to keep a short range minelayer group running. AK would be suicide.

Interesting i'll try one from the east but palau definately has/had nells. so thats bad.

with regard to mining timor . it's definately on the timetable. but im doing bases that will soon be closed by jap air cover. timor can wait a bit. not too long mind you.

Re batavia BB/BC .. yes but wll he believe it ? humm .. dont want to run .. want one suprise raid then run .. BUT discretion may be the beter part of valour.

ALichi -- hello .. some august company in here .. thanks for posting ,, yuppers mines = fun .. never done the port 9 sorbaja before .. well worth it.

You (me too) should have sent those AK's early on towards Manila. The chance of making succesfull supply run now is low [:(]

Those mines... I suggest that you mine the place so that your ground troops have an "bridge" all the way to Australia!!! [:D][:D][:D]

Do not foolishly sacrifice your BB's at Batavia! [:-] If you are 110% certain you suprise him there than go ahead otherwise.... patience [8D]
