The Grand Lady of Tactical Gaming

Post by Wild Bill »

Steel Panthers...don't give up on her. She is far from done just yet. The most versatile, playable and enjoyable game I've ever played.

And I'm just as thrilled about her potential as I was 10 years ago...and who knows what might be ahead!

I reckon Steel Panthers is best tactical war game I've ever played. I'm sure there are other good ones but I haven't played many games. I've had problems trying to get PBEM to work properly, but for single player, this game is king (or queen or whatever).

Now I want to learn how to make a campaign once I get used to using the editor.

So long as this "queen" doesn't wear a duck suit and play a piano on hydraulics; we're cool [:D]

This is easily the most in depth strategy game I've played, though it's the only 'modern' strategy game I've played too; given my history with fantasy and medieval-themed battles. I've spent perhaps hours just seeing what I can do with regards to building a core force; and while there's one particular set up I've come to rely on for a current streak of 7 DVs in a row; there's literally an unlimited amout of variation in how you can build your force.

The community here is pretty good too, not as impatient as most groups towards noobs and their questions; and the regulars who post their AAR/DARs make it a fun place to come and just read for a couple hours.

I'm sticking to Steel Panthers. :) This was the first game I ever played for hours on an end before I even knew what on earth it was. I got the demo on a computer gaming world magazine (I like it 'cuz they had animated talking heads, and their reviews were audio) when I was just about 7 or 8 years old, I'm guessing. To me, Steel Panthers is to TBS what Total Annihilation was to RTS.

LOL! With Bill being a southerner, he knows that the holy trinity in these parts is Elvis, Dale Earnhardt and Ronnie Van Zant. I'm a West Virginian, but a rebel through and through. [;)]

Thankfully, we still have the Colonel with us! [&o]

Got me worried now Bill.

When someone says to me, "Don't worry, the ship ain't sinking." I think, "Why? Is the ship sinking?" [&:]

Hell, I can't give up this game now anyway. I'm a total addict. Greater things still to come? Aaaah, I'm doomed, doomed I say.

This is the only game on my computer... although I currently have three different versions installed, and it's the reason my internet connection had to be improved, so that it could cope with all of the PBEM files going back and forth (even zip files take up space eventually!).

I heard a rumour that the ship was sinking? [;)]

There's a few of us out there who remain determined not to let the ship sail away into the sunset.

Going back to the game's earliest days, the lifeblood is in the participation of the gamers themselves. SPWaW isn't attached to a company name, as Microsoft likes to do with many of its products.

The game IS what we make of it, and it is mostly OUR creation. This active input, which is encouraged, is what sets SPWaW apart and contributes to its longevity.

No.

This game sucks. I have wasted too many precious moments of my life for this junk. From now on I want to stay permanently out of this complete waste of time. Yuck!
Don't be shocked, I AM funny.
