Question about Japanese mg nests

Post by Dracko »

I am playing a scenario that takes place in 1945 where the Japanaese are delaying advancing Russian armor and troops. Think the scenario is called Late Comers.

The Japanese have some HMG nests. I have tried unsuccessfully so far as the Russian player to be able to destroy these nests. I have tried using the tanks, artillery, and assults with grenades and satchel charges. Nothing seems to do any damage.

What is the best way to take down one of these machine gun nests?

Thanks for any input.

Figure out what their fire arcs are, put a smokescreen in front of it to shield your troops from taking fire, and then.........bypass it.

If it´s a 360 degree HMG nest, this doesn´t work so good, but I just bypass pillboxes all the time.

While interviewing an anonymous US SF soldier, a Reuters News agent asked the soldier what he felt when sniping members of Al Quaeda in Afghanistan.
The soldier shrugged and replied, "Recoil."

Thanks. Guess will just bypass the mg nests for now. The only other thing I can think of to try is a flame thrower.

Infantry assaults are where it is at. Use the smoke, flank it, and close assault it. Despite being engineers, engineers do not assault any better than regular infantry, so use whatever you have available if you must eliminate a bunker.

Use Haig "tactics" and rush the MG nest with mass amounts of infantry and calvary. Eventually, it'll go down with a loss of a company or two.

Don't believe that I like "Haig" tactics.

I understand very well that Haig isn't your favorite....this was the reason for my comment [;)]

So engineers with satchel charges are no better at assaulting than general infantry with satchel charges? Damn....didn´t know that. I thought the engineers ruled at assaults.

Actually, I find that they usually have a lower chance to assault, for some reason, when compared to Rangers, or something, even with the same experience. I'll see 10% or less chance with engineers, and with Airborne, SS, Rangers, SNFL, etc, I will often see 20% or more. Again, I am speaking of units with the same experience, so the +10 on the experience of the troops mentioned in comparison is voided out. Regular infantry have about the same chance as Engineers, but their assaults seem to do the thing where it jumps to 20+ suppression and doesn't do the actual assault more often.

They do work better than average infantry when you actually have to fire weapons at the bunker (because your assault failed), because their satchel charges or flamethrowers can kill it, when a grenade or rifle cannot.

All bunkers have firing slits at the front sector. Hitting at front of them reduces their manpower value and when that value becomes zero the bunker/fort is destroyed. If the front value is 0, even rifle fire can destroy the bunker.

Nah, for taking out a bunker, you KNOW who you need to call -- send in the United States Marines, 1945 model : by that time, most of their rifle squads had become 13-man wrecking crews. and [:D]

Bypass? You mean let those guys roam around behind you? Nope, I don't allow any fortification to go undemolished.

Hey KG, I heard another Marine saying from a USMC friend of mine recently:

"Leave a Marine alone in an empty room with no responsibilities other than three ball-bearings for an hour, and when you come back one will be lost, one will be broken and the third one will be eaten"

I finally laid down some smoke and went around the nests. Was able to take one out with a tank after a few shots at point blank range.

The Japanesse tank hunters are pretty nasty too.
