Japan turn 10, Summer 1942
Well I guess there was some supply over in Italian East Africa or he still has enough transports to link to the US, so Dobeln was able to recapture Southern India. In hindsight I think I should have burned the supply and sent a couple HF's to block access to India. Oh well. I finally had nothing else more important to do this turn so I took all of the DEI along with a few other minor islands around the area. I'm at 21PP now. Next turn I should hit 24 unless something happens.

Germany has a considerable tech lead over Russia so he has been almost untouched so far. Watching the replay I saw Russia lose about 15 infantry and 12 militia along with a tank and flak. Germany didn't take a single hit if I recall. Russia's units just don't have a high enough land attack to touch the Germans. Stone's infantry was at 6 LA and his tanks were at 7 LA. He put to much production into fighters and didn't have the neccessary tech levels to damage a511's Germans. With this round to many Russians have been lost for Stone to be able to stop the steam roller.

So the Sealion thing. I do not get it.

a511 managed to fly safely through through the flak and then damage three land units in rough terrain? With how may bombers and one LF? And those three units are in rough terrain and defending? What are the odds of that working out? What kind of rolls would you need (much less surviving the flak) to pull that off.

And if the CAG is north of Scotland, wouldn't that have Op-fired at the HB because they moved through the North Sea and Scotland which counts as two adjacent areas?

Then add in that a511 invaded with one infantry (three transports is 9 amphib).

I never would have thought. But I am going to remember that little maneuver. I am sure I will not get the great rolls, but that is very cool.

And why did LeBatron zap China so early? Doesn't that bring in the US extra early?

hi! thx for watching this AAR. let me answer ur questions ...

the whole purpose of the 3 HB+ 1 LF attack is to kill the artillery unit. the odd for killing the artillery and milita is great but im very likely to lose 1 HB (to the flak) and LF (to artillery). i must say that im really lucky to kill all 3 units in scotland w/o any lose to my side.

with the artillery removed, things are a lot easier .... only one infantry did the amphib attack (the max GER has for the moment) the reasons why i use the third transport is to move extra armor units to scotland after scotland is secured.

in fact, this move is only possible if WA move the fht unit from scotland in the first turn ... if he didnt, WA have enough units to defend sealion in the second round.

for LeBatron's move, as long as Jp leave SU alone, it wont bring in US earlier.

Thanks for the excellent responses. I did not know any of that.

A few more questions if you do not mind.

How come you did not attack with all of surface ships? Why just 3 HB and 1 LF? Why not 3 HB and the whole surface fleet.., then invade with Inf and leave the fleet out there to protect your Tranports and maybe throw in a Ftr for CAP to help out the fleet and transports?

Can you tell me if my CAG question made sense? If it was north of Scotland, would that have not counted as the second adjacent zone and your HB would have drawn Op-Fire?

Thanks again, very interesting.

glad to know u like the answers.

imo, for air raids, only 1 fleet will do the coastal bombardment. unless i do multi air raids (but that will give its flak extra shots), i can only use 1 fleet.
leave the fleet out there to protect your Tranports and maybe throw in a Ftr for CAP to help out the fleet and transports?

in SU40, GER fleet had no chance in making a direct confrontation with the royal navy. i cant afford to lose the GER fleet this way as they have a higher value mission to complete as i did in late 40. w/o the fleet support, fht protection is a waste of supplies.
If it was north of Scotland, would that have not counted as the second adjacent zone and your HB would have drawn Op-Fire?
im not 100% sure about the Op-fire rules, but iirc, no OP-fire if it moves from a sea zone into a land zone ...
Jan, would be nice if u can tell whether i remember correctly.

GER FA'42

not much real action this turn as GER only picked the easy ones at moscow's backyard.
while SU has gathered 40+ units [X(] in defending moscow, SU only has 5 supplies there. with only a small army defending its backyard, GER has taken Northern Ural, Goki and Kazan. the moscow pocket is completed. [:D]

GER finally have time to repair the RPs in russia and is now at 43 PPs [8D] (remember that GER did not go for neutral grabbing, GER has not even repaired the RPs in iraq and italian east africa).

Japan turn 11, Fall 1942
Not much action on my end. I just did a little moving and repairing. I'm at full production now. We are only a few points from AV. Currently its 68. Since Germany has Leningrad and Stalingrad all we need is 71PP's to win. In my mod I bumped that certain VC condition up from 70 in case you didn't know.

Here is the damage chart. Notice how little casualties German has suffered so far. Its because the Russian units can do no harm. Stone has certainly learned his lesson and I doubt he will make that mistake again.

GER Wi43

no real battles, just taking the empty regions in SU's backyard plus some infrastructure bombings ... now there are two pockets of SU soldiers, one in moscow and one in central ural (while SU can break this pocket, there are not enough supplies for a full escape) [:D]

PP at 72 now, iirc, AV condition will be checked in the end of WA's turn.[8D]

my biggest question is ... where is the US Navy[&:]

Japan turn 12, Winter 1943
This turn I repaired 2 factories in China and that brought my PP's to 27. With Germany's PP's at 47, our total is now 74. Three over what we needed to win via Leningrad and Stalingrad. I don't see any possible way the Allies can knock this down to delay a win.

To bad Dobeln left Scotland under defended. I'm sure he didn't have much fun having to deal with that. I also missed out on an interesting Pacific campaign myself, because I never saw any action with the US Pacific fleet. I'm sure the reason for that was his severe lack of transports. Without them, he would be unable to support any fleet over in the Solomon sea area. A511 certainly had his fun. Just look at the map. Both the UK and Russia under his control. Also Gibraltar, Cairo, Italian East Africa. A German's wet dream come true! And Stonewashedjackson certainly must have learned a lesson or two on how to play Russia and China.

Well it's time to start another 4-player game of Franco's Alliance. Look for it in the opponents wanted section.

Very interesting after action report. The screenshots really helped to give your game a great feel.

Hopefully next time the teams will be more balanced [;)]

Yes, it was great.

I would like to see a game where the Germans are not so dominant so that the Japanese have to be more careful. I just do not know what to do with the Japanese.., I would love to see an AAR with a couple of different Japanese strategies.., like one hitting a tough Russia and maybe another one attacking the US.
