Devices-Cluster bombs

Post by Iron Duke »

Hi,

device 211 100lb ICB Cluster
device 212 400lb ICB Cluster

Does anybody know if these devices are used in the game? I cannot find any a/c equipped with them .
Also does anybody know what they represent - anti personel or incendiary clusters?

Cheers

ICB stands for Incendiary Cluster Bomb; they're the containers used for carrying the incendiary bomblets by heavy bombers over Germany. They're probably left-overs from BtR.

I thought it was only on Naval Attack missions that heavy bombers changed their loads?

LeMay's low night flying B 29's did indeed carry incendiary cluster bombs, and did more damage than atomic bombs.
In all cases, leaflets were dropped days before in all of those cities, warning the civilians to "pick up and leave".
Those leaflets were heeded by much of the populace.

Just guessing - maybe selecting 'Manpower' (or whatever it's called) as a target changes the selection?

I used them in a couple of special cases to simulate many small bombs.
For example, the ORIGINAL Corsair - F4U-1 ONLY - had tiny bombs in tiny "bomb bays" inside the wings. One cluster bomb listed "internal" approximately models these otherwise ignored weapons.
