Keith (Japanese) versus Jack (Allied)

Post by joliverlay »

We are starting a new game, both posting on the same thread. Keith is new to the mods etc. so we are going back to basics. Stock long war scenario. Encouragement and remarks welcome.

The basic allied strategy, according to the press reports (maybe propgaganda) is to secure the supply lines between allied forces, minimize casulties, but otherwise engange in a war of attrition.

He wants to post on the same thread. Perhaps you can encourage him to post a parallel one so we can share our secret plans with the audience. I've still trying to figure out how to do a decent AAR.

Thanks for the response.

I am in the process of starting my 2nd PBEM as the Allies. The 1st is with 1.795 and non-historical 1st turn (only to 12/19/41), while the second will be using the Nik Mod (as soon as we get the 1st turn bugs worked out - no animation). [:(]
I might start a AAR with the second. I find the AAR's that discuss strategy and tactics more enjoyable than just reading combat.txt info and not much insight into the why's. For instance, I want to get feedback on how to prevent China or India fromgetting overrun and slowing down the Central Pacific strategy.

After reading the comments I had second thoughts about posting the combat report. I'll leave it for those who want it and just give a summary report.

Keith if you are reading this, stop now!

I've decided to organize a naval pull out of PI. Ive grouped ships into TFs based on speed and they are all leaving except an AS and some subs. I've ordered all land forces to retreat to Manila, Clark or Battan. The FBs in the area are going to be set for low level straffing because it appears Keith is sending out unescorted APs to some outlying bases.

My Dutch Naval Forces are sending elements to several of the level 4 air fileds on Borneo and other islands which will also have detachments of Buffalos for CAP. I can't stop an envasion, but I want to dealy the placement of java and plambang into betty range.

The Malay army is being ordered to hold the level 4 airfields rather than retreat south towards Singapore which I usually do. Again I want to hold airfields as long as possible. I've also moved most of my weaker LBA air units on to India, keeping fighters and torpedo bombers near Singapore.

I've dispatched four TR TFs from the west coast towards targets were I will drop small units (CD, AA, Engineer) to start construction of bases and defenses.

The good news about December 7 is that no ships were sunk. I lost nearly 300 aircraft, including about 80 P40Bs, so my fighter arm will be relatively weak for some time.

Detailed losses are given below. It will be interesting to see if Keith hangs around.

move eng to manila to build up thew AF there to support bombers, and set all plaens including fighters to naval attack. deploy ur subs agressiveley near major ports, jus dont send em into coastal hexes unless u REALLY want to A.. increases chances of killz, B. put ur subs at extreme risk, C. BOTH. create sum raiding forces of destroyers and cruisers to raid wen thers little or no convoy escort. also get that AS to a rear area of the DEI ASAP. if he does a recon of the harbor hell see it, order a port attack and shell get blown away. base ur subs at rear areas if u can too, or the same could happen to them. concentrate troops at Clark and Manila and then once clark is under threat send them to either manila or bataan. use your PT boats to attack convoys too.

just a few things id do [:'(]

and watch out for Ryujo and other light raiding carriers and ...

I pull out ALL my Dutch AP's to Oz and use AK's to do any transport of troops. Need those AP's in '43 when the counter offensive begins. [:D][:D] I sent them slowly to West Coast to help get those large USA divisions to their destination.
I know this may be a little "gamey," but I try to get a cadre worth of my troops out of Malaya by FT or sub transport back to India (fisrt the 4 large BF's - MAF & 3 ISF's, then some of the Brigades). They end up in Karachi where they can spend most of '42 being build up after Malaya falls. [;)]
There is a good thread that I started about how to take preventative measures to prevent a successful Central Pacific strategy that you might need if he tries that one.
It will be interesting to follow yours, since we should be close to the say timeline.[8D]
