Bear's editor

Post by bradk »

I bought Bear's editor years ago rom CDAccess, I think it was. v1.19. There was a free upgrade on his website to v1.22 which required v1.19 to run, but the only copy I have of v1.22 is on my old "won't boot" computer, and now I find the website is down. I got v1.19 off my CDAcess disc and installed it on my new computer, but would like 1.22. Any place I can get the 1.22 upgrade? Thanks.

No, I can't use the new editor because I don't have Excel. (Heading off the inevitable question! <G>)

Download and try the freeware Open Office - it is said that it is compatible with MS Office.

Excellent idea. Nice office suite.

I unfortunately must report that it doesn't understand the script that loads the save or obc files.

Thanks for the tip, though. I'm going to use Open Office for other things.

I remember Bear. He was a very avid fan of PacWar and a few other games. Saw his one and only post here on the board a couple of years ago announcing the death of another fan of the game. I wonder what happened to have caused him to "put away childish things" in favor of real life. Missing out on a whold lot of fun.

Yea, great guy. There's a limit to how long anyone can be interested in something, and its my impression he was one of the very early purchasers of the game. Circa 1999 I joined the old mailing list, but by then, the biggest interest was reading the archives.

Tell that to chess enthusiasts.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Yea, but they're all mathematicians, statisticians... maybe even crytonologists! (Not "normal" folks like PW players! <G>)

Greetings Everyone.....

Decided to check out the forums after receiving an email from
a Matrix member who told me some people were looking for me.

After being absent from the Pacific War scene for many years,
I'm pleased to recognize quite a few names on several of the Pacific
War related forums... after all these years, The Crazy B*stards are
still at it !! <and I mean that in a Good Way ! > <Smiles>

bradk.....

If you still need a copy of PacEdit v1.22, I could email a copy to you
after I dig the file out (most of my PacWar stuff has been mothballed
on older systems and needs to be hunted down).... for a game that
Gary made in 1992, pretty incredible that people still play it... I took
the web site down thinking that with Valor & then WITP there would
be nobody still playing Pacific War....guess I was wrong.

Anyway, send me a private message with your email address and
I'll send ya a copy of v1.22

Thank you! I was fortunate enough that someone here had the free upgrade and sent it to me. I must point out here that your offer above, considering how buried that file must be, is excellent customer service. (Thinking that I paid $5, I think it was, for the editor and I know you didn't get all of that!) Thanks again. Its really great you would offer to do that.

Concerning people you recognize, I was mostly a lurker on the old PacWar list, so I can't be one of them. (Everyone was so far ahead of me back then (circa 1998) and so I just lurked most of the time.

Good to see you around. Often feel regret that I missed most of the good old days of PW.
